Parker-Biersay Proposal

We met because of 9-11 on the beautiful island of Jamaica!

Well, to tell you how he proposed, I will have to tell you how we met.

I met my beloved husband, Sullavan "Steve" Biersay in Montego Bay, Jamaica on 9/14/01.  To get over the depression I was feeling and fright of not knowing if family and friends of mine were okay after witnessing on the television the devastation of 9/11, I decided to take a tour with my then 2 year old son Myles to Negril.

Lydia & Sullavan I am not a first time visitor of Jamaica because 95 percent of my family are Jamaicans, but I wanted to be a tourist this trip and not stay with family and friends.  He was my tour guide for the day!  I didn't notice him in that manner for several reasons:
    1. Because of 9/11, my mind was elsewhere,
    2. This vacation was for me and my son ONLY and
    3. He had made a stupid comment after being tardy for my pickup:)
Anyway the hotel where my son and I were staying was his first pickup for the morning for our Negril tour.  I really had nothing to say to him.  I thought that he was a jerk!  Finally when all of the guests at several hotel locations were picked up for this trip we started towards our destination.

That morning I had drunk several glasses of water and had forgotten because I had to go really bad 30 minutes into our trip.  Steve decided that our next pit stop wouldn't be for another 20 minutes!!  He was really on my hit list then!!  Finally when we arrived at the pit stop and I "relieved" myself I bought my son and I a beverage to share.  He then asked if he could have some of mine and I replied quite nicely "No".  We the made our destination to Negril (Note: to travel from Montego Bay to Negril is approximately a 2 hour drive!!!)

At around Lunchtime he took myself and the other guests to a place called "Marguariteville" for eats and sun.  It was then I noticed him because he decided to join myself and my son in the water.  He was sooooo cute!!!  He had a wonderful smile that I forgot how much of a jerk I thought he was.  He asked me a lot of questions about myself and the obvious one--where was my son's father on this trip?  I calmly and honestly replied "You're looking at him."

He then asked me later on our conversation of where I saw myself in a year from now.  I told him hopefully happy and married to a wonderful man.  He then told me that I would never know what life would bring you.  I found out that he was 7 years my junior!  I felt somewhat disappointed and weird that this guy was younger than me and I felt that I had to have him in my life-as a friend, a lover or even a husband.

He contacted my mother 3 months after we started dating and asked for her blessing on our relationship whatever level it would have progressed to.  She did and I got what I prayed for my friend, my lover, my husband.  I never knew that I could love someone so dearly and passionately and get it reciprocated in the same way.  God has truly blessed me.  Now it's time to start Baby #2!!!
