Rose Ceremony

Has anyone heard of the Rose ceremony? A friend of mine told me about it, and I found the wording online. It is where right before the bride and groom are pronounced husband and wife, they exchange a single rose to each other. It is a lovely sentiment, and they are suppose to designate a place in their new home just for roses, and if there is a need to apologize, or forgive, he or she will place a single rose in that spot. What do you ladies think about that?

Re: Rose Ceremony

I've heard of it, but not about the designating a part of the home for just roses -- I think that is a really nice jesture. Bigdzwife, I'm a newlywed and I think I'm going to take that part of the rose ceremony and incorporate it into our relationship. Thanks for sharing!

Wonderful touch!!!  My FH and I do plan on incorporating this as part of our special day, along with the "Blessing of the Hands" ceremony.

Wonderful touch

It is really romantic Ginoue. I used it in my own wedding and I included my mother and Mother-in-law as well. My husband gave the rose to my mother and I gave one to his. Even though we were not close it touched her. Are you jumping the broom too?

Re:Wonderful touch

No Rosie.  I'm Haitian and in our European culture, we do not believe in the "Jumping of the Broom".

I've seen and done plenty of weddings which incorporated it in it.  I don't really want to offend anyone with my opinion on the subject, so I'll leave it at that.

Thanks Mommy Rosie.

Re:Re:Wonderful touch

How could you possiblely offend anyone, Ginoue? Opinons are welcomed and appreciated at VibrantBride.com! Jumping the broom, just like handfasting is a European custom. It is not French like you are, though. The brooms were brought to slaves through Irish "indentured servants" (white slaves) who placed brooms in front of their homes and jumped over them to symbolize their union. It is now an African AMERICAN custom. Africans do not do it. Most have never even heard of it. lol

Re:Rose Ceremony

FYI
In the Rose Ceremony, the Bride and Groom give each other a red rose bud. Two red rose buds are all that
is necessary. The Rose Ceremony is placed near the end of the ceremony just "after" being pronounced husband and wife.

This ceremony is what is called an "add-on" ceremony. It is intended to be added into the wedding or renewal of vows ceremony.

In the old language of flowers, a single red rose has always meant "I love you". The Rose ceremony gives
recognition to the new and most honorable title of "Wife and Husband".

This ceremony originates in a classic rose ceremony from a lost and elegant age. It was rewritten by
the Hon. Mark Ovard and rewritten again by Larry James explaining the true meaning of the ceremony - and in ways
that can endure through your married life together - this is a unique and meaningful addition to any
marriage ceremony. It will also inspire your guests.
