Styles for brides with natural hair

Hi Ladies,

I am a bride to be with natural hair, and I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions for natural hair styles that would work at a wedding.

How long is your hair. If you have long hair you could wear your hair with a ponytail to the side with a flower in it, you could wear your hair in shirley temple curls. If you have a nice short cut you can just have it trimmed and curled nicely. You could even wear your hair in the deep finger waves, they are making a come back.

Re: Styles for brides with natural hair

I saw the styles on the site, I'm just looking for more ideas. I keep going back and forth about how I wanted to do my hair, so I want enough options that when I see the right style, I'll know it's the one because I exhausted all possibilites.

Thanks for the pic phenominique.

You know what Housewife, the deep waves may work. My wedding is supposed to feel very retro and sexy and eccentric, so maybe that could work for me. Thanks!

Re: Styles for brides with natural hair

Honestly, its really hard to tell for you since you have a while....I went back and forth with a style and then I finally picked one i liked. Well by the time I bought my dress had it fitted, did the final fitting, with the tiara, earrings, and the veil, I changed my mind completey! My wedding coordinator who was with me was taking pictures of me at the final fitting, and I had just go my hair permed and wrapped, so we just put the hair and jewelry on for fun, well when I looked at the pics I liked it! So I ended up going with that very simple style. So I ended up having about 3 weeks to review it with my stylist, take pictures of myself with it again, and liking it...SOOOOO I typed all that to say that until you wear some practice styles with whatever accessories you want and maybe take a few pics of it, you really can't tell for sure because there are no rules with this wedding thing anymore as all the girls have probably told you.

PLUS, I saved about 200.00 which is what I was going to spend on that style I was SOOOO sure I wanted!

I was going to ask this question also. I have locs. the top is about two inches past my shoulders and the back is to the back of my back.
So I have a dilemna with wearing it up. I always have the straglers that stick out.

I looked at the styles here but I needed to something different. I thought about getting the top and sides extended to same length as the back.

You should probably make them curly. It can be really sexy to have the little straglers, but maybe you should just get them extended. But tell me how that works with locs because I've never heard of extending locs. The only experience I have with locs is FH because I am locing his hair.

Dear STBMrsJ,
Have you ever viewed the site nappturality.com? There is a gallery there and many good examples of style for natural hair. I'm a natural bride to be as well, newly engaged for about a month. So trust me, I know what you're going through. God bless!
Peace

I believe that they can extend locs. Hare you visited Murials Blue Hill ave.? They are amazing w/ alternative styles. The girl that does FH's hair is Peaches. Girl, let me tell you...ain't nobody else touching his hair BUT her on our wedding day. I agree w/STBMrsJ, because curls do look too fly with loc's.

Hey Hali,

I used to go to nappturality all the time, but for some reason I don't go so much. Do you read Naturally You? I just bought the most recent issue and they have an article on wedding hairstyles for naturals.

*BUMP* I still don't see a solution for us with natural hair. I keep seeing the same styles. Someone please tell me that what I am seeing truly isn't the only styles out there! Sad

Re: Styles for brides with natural hair

You should go to a salon who only caters to natural hair. You'd be very surprise the styles that they'll be able to come up with. You don't have to use them, but they have the styling books, why not spend an hour to take a look at them. YOu'll come away with a whole lot more ideas than you have right now. Also, beauty supply store carries styling books, maybe you could browse without damaging the books and when you find a book with the styles you're contemplating, purchase it and show the style to your hairdresser.

I love your gel twist!! My hair is natural as well but very thin and I don't know how the gel twist would look on me.

Re:Re: Styles for brides with natural hair

an image Have you gotten any more ideas Ieasha? In our hair gallery we do have quite a few natural looks with or without locks. Which ways did you finally decide to go?
Gel locs on thin hair can be fine, just make sure you express your concerns to your hairstylist. Try to not do your hair yourself on this very important day. The pics last several lifetimes!
Consider these updos in our hair gallery for shorter locks:

I am really diggin' the 'fro and veil. It makes her seem funky and exotic. never a bad thing to show your true self. That hair braiding is so super GORGEOUS! My hair grows out too fast to do it. It would look good for a week MAX! lol Hairpiece number 2 is sold on Vibrantbride. It is just soo sassy!

here is a bigger braid version of the one we both love. I have HARD hair. No soft curly locks, so natural on me would have a whole new flavor! lol

Thaks Mistee and Carollove! We try to keep up and scour the net for pics. Please feel free to blog about them in our forums and post pics here. We all work to make this site better. We are redoing the gallery so that members can add photos directly. Where would VibrantBride.com be without Shy and Butterbean and Future and vibrideprincess and so many others??? Jut love you guys!
