Weaves??

Are there any avid weave wearers on this site? If so, what are you favorite styles? What brands of hair would you recommend? Are you planning on wearing a weave for your Big Day?

Re: Weaves??

I'm not a weave person either (although I have worn them). I had 4 tracks in my head for my big day. I used Janet hair. Although a time before I used Remy hair (lasts longer but more expensive).

Re: Weaves??

Not an aavid weave-wearer but sew-ins were my friend when I was pregnant!

For a temporary 1-2 week do I can't remember off hand what I use (I'll check when I get home).

For more long term, like for my sewn-ins, I used Remy.

Re: Weaves??

I used to wear microbraids alot but I HATE taking them out! I've been wearing sew-ins for about 4 months now. I wear weaves for convenience. I don't get the chance to go to the salon because I'm always on the road. I was wearing "Spanish Wavy" from Urban Beauty. I like it but I need something that lasts longer than 6 weeks. I bought "Velvet Remi" by Outre and I'm getting my hair done tomorrow. I hope everything turns out okay.

My beautician just informed me that I use Outre' for temporary weaves and Remy for long term but that Remy is made by Outre!

Re: Weaves??

Ok, I will admit it ladies; I'm a complete Weava-Diva!! Been wearing them for over 10 years. Honestly, it all depends on how much you want to pay. I wear my weaves for 4-5 months w/o getting it done again (just a tightening around the edges midway through to keep it looking fresh).

I order my hair from California - Extensions Plus & get the ZigZag style hair. You can wear it wavy when wet & you can straighten it. It's costly, but it lasts for years. I've rewashed mine a few times over as well as when I take it out, the salon conditions it, dries it, preps it & it's back in for another go-around.

I've done the bagged hair & the hair by the ounce from the Bronx & Manhattan (they add plastic or fillers to the hair to make it look fuller - don't be fooled). This by far the best. On my wedding day, I had it pinned up w/a swept bang & the curls dropped ever so nicely when I took the pins out. You can do anything w/it.

So, I'm done putting my hair on blast (in case we ever meet, I don't want ya'll talkin' about my dome). But, try a weave Platinum.... (you may get turned out like me to them) & sample styles.

Re: Weaves??

Thanks for the info Mrsrobinson2be cant wait to try it ...im wearing my hair down with curls for my wedding so a weave to make it fuller is a must. How much should we expect to pay for that hair you are talking about.

wait..you're from elmont? I'm not far from u..westbury!!
ok, sorry you were asking about hair Smile

I got about 9 ozs from this place in Cali for $434. It's sooo worth it!!! I wouldn't lie. And occassionally, I buy another 2 ozs to keep as extra in case my stylist runs short.

Re: Weaves??

I've heard about Extensions Plus. I'm going to try the hair I have first but I will keep EP in mind as well. I also have a friend who buys Indian Hair directly from the manufacturer. She pays about $350.00 for one bag but that hair lasts over a year.

Re: Weaves??

Not a avid weaver but I did go for one on my big day. I also used Remy upon recommendation of a friend who wouldn't be caught dead without one. She normally travels down to the city, somewhere in Brooklyn, to an asian store where she says they sell in bulk weight and they match the hair to you. Girlfriend goes all out for hers...LOL She said Remy is what she uses when she doesn't want to drive to city.

Remy body wave 18 inch in 4/30. 2 bundles were used to create the look. My hair is out in the front, and the rest is braided straight back.

Re: Weaves??

Bump. Update!

I tried the Velvet Remi by Outre. It was pretty but just a little too silky so after two weeks I took it out ( I kept it just in case I changed my mind again.) Then, I bought Spanish Wavy by Janet. This stuff is horrible! I hasn't been in two weeks yet but it's already tangled and matted. So now, I'm looking for more hair. I haven't decided on whether to order the Indian hair ($175 for one pound of 16in "Natural Straight") or Relaxed Texture by Extensions Plusb($135 per 2 oz)

Re: Weaves??

Ok ladies seeming that im a licensed hairstylist and have been doing hair for over 13years i would say that it all depends on the style that you are trying to achieve! if you are wanting a sew in done by far saga remy hair would be a excellent choice, if you are wanting to wear your hair in an updo on your wedding day i would suggest milky way yaky perm hair.Me personally i want to wear my hair down and curly so im putting in finger roll hair by milky way that is so lovely and bouncy so i dont have to worry about it on our honeymoon. And for any weave no matter what the cost is you need a wig brush and it will detangle the hair .

Re: Weaves??

Hey Platinum, I have natural hair. I don't wear weaves. However on my wedding day I did have a sew in weave which my hair dresser styled in a really nice updo. I love the way a good weave looks, I just don't have the patience to sit and have it done. Besides I am sooooo tender headed!!!!

Girl I showed my hair dresser my dress and she automatically was like "that is not an afro dress" You'll need a sew in hal, up half down."

Which is cool. I didn't have my heart set on an afro although I liked the idea and do truely believe it will look better....But being that I'm not an avid weave wearer should I really spend serious cheese considering I'm probably not going to wear it any longer than a month?

Also how many hair trials did you go through before you knew which style you would go with?

Thanks. My main issue is that I am an over-the-road truck driver. With the company that I drive for now, I get home every 6-8 weeks so that's why I'm looking for good quality hair that lasts, not a quick fix. Before I started driving trucks, I used to change my hairstyles every week so quality didn't matter. I may go back to wearing microbraids next summer.

Abeni, so with your natural hair will you get it straightened (like with a hot comb or flat iron)? A girl who was a bridesmaid in my brother's wedding did it, and it came out beautifully. We wore a side-bun for the hairstyles. It cost her 30 at a salon, but soooo worth it....Looked like she got a perm!

Re: Weaves??

If anything I might get the front flat ironed and the back braided for a sew in. Which brings me to another question. Being that i'm getting a sew in, should I get this done a few weeks before or a week before to speed up the process of getting my hair done?

A week before is fine, just don't try to get it sewed in the day of. Plus that'll give you time to get used to having the hair on your head and you can start thinking about how you want it styled with your dress.

Re: Weaves??

Hello there sister Platinum ~ Remy is by far the best that I've used. I'm aslso a Weava-Diva and have been weaving my hair for the past 6 years. I weave my hair for about 4 - 5 months, then I take it out, treat my hair, perm it and start all over again. While I have the weave in my hair, I do not wash it, but wrap it every night and style it every day. It keeps the hair so new, that my daughter and niece reuse them as ponytails. I now use Remy Body Wave 18-inch and it takes about 3 packs to do my hair, but oh, it's so worth it. Remy is on the costly side of things, but considering what you've already paid on hair, I don't think you would mind.

Re: Weaves??

I took out the tangled mess and bought some more hair. This time I got "Micro Yaki" from Outre when I was in Phoenix AZ. This hair is very close to my texture and was inexpensive (only $21.99 a pack. I only needed 1 1/4 packs). Hopefully this will hold for a few weeks until I can decide if I'm going to buy the Indian Hair or EPRT. Then again, if this hair lasts, I'll continue to buy it.

By the way, for my wedding day, I ended up using yaki from the beauty supply. I can't remember the brand, I think it's called "Beautiful". It's similiar to the "Micro Yaki" by Outre. I love it, it looks just like my own hair. I'll have to take more pics soon.

I ditto on how natural your look is Barrnet2B! I use Remy myself. It is hard to find a hairdresser that can do it to my satisfaction that doesn't cost an arm and a leg though!
