Re: First Dance

I am thinking of using Nothing Even Matters - D'Angelo and Lauryn Hill for the first dance.

We are using Isn't She Lovely - Stevie Wonder for the father daughter dance.
Real love requires a minimum of emotion and a maximum of the will - Bishop Keith W. Reed, Sr.

Re: First Dance

Our first dance was to Luther Vandross' "I'd Rather". "Hero" by Mariah Carey is a nice for a father/daughter dance.

P.S. the Anthony Hamilton song is a nice song -- I like that one too.

FH and I took it waaay back...our first dance will be to You are Everything (Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrell)
Won't have the opportunity for father/daughter or mother/son because both are deceased

djimonsmom I think Anthony Hamilton is a great choice! Smile

Very nice! this is one of FH's favorite songs, but we nixed this because FH is not a very good "slow dancer" LOL

Re: First Dance

Our first dance song will be "Differences" by Ginuwine. Our other options were "Spend My Life"-Tamia and Eric Benet, "You"-Jesse Powell, and "Greatest Love"-Musiq Soulchild. I think our father/daughter song will be "Isn't She Lovely"-Stevie Wonder or "Your Are the Sunshine of My Life"-another Stevie hit. My FH and future MIL haven't decided what song they will be dancing to yet.

Re: First Dance

You ladies have such wonderful choices in first songs. FH and I thought that we wanted to dance to "At Last" by Etta James. Then, we heard this other song (boy, I forgot by whom) and we both fell in love with it. Now we're torn. It's called "Sweetest Kiss" and here are some of the words

Like a rose losing its thorn you came to me
I was so scared just the thought made me weak
placed your hands in mine gently closed my eyes your lips touched my lips I felt so alive my first, my last my always my sweetest kiss

Do you remember arm in arm for the first time?
Against all odds our hearts collide like it was meant to be
something happened then it hit me stronger than anything I'd wished or ever will again my first, my last my always my first, my last my always my first, my last my always

Placed your hands in mine gently closed my eyes your lips touched my lips I felt so alive my first, my last my always my first, my last my always my first, my last my always my first, my last my always sweetest kiss sweetest kiss

When I remember who sings this, I'll let you know, but she's very young, but talented.

Re: First Dance

I really like "So Amazing" by Luther Vandross and my FH loves "Spend my Life with You" by Eric Benet'. I was looking at using "My Girl" by The Temptations as the father/daughter/son/mother dance. Those are beautiful songs. "So Amazing" is a song that he sung to me right before he proposed. So I think you should use a song that comes from your heart. Good Luck!!

Re: First Dance

Oh, I remember the name of the composer. She's Michal Towber, a 3-time Emmy winner composer/songwriter. She has written for shows like One Life To Live and lately General Hospital has asked her for a few, but she has 3 albums out so far too. The name of the song is "Sweetest Kiss".

Shy, I know exactly what you mean!!! Isn't it funny how FH would do absolutely nothing, questions us on every penny though, but wherever he goes, or if he's around his boys, he'll just say "Oh have you met my wife? Show them the ring baby"; or he'll say, "aren't we married yet". As if they're willing to take all the credit for all of our hard work without so much as lifting a hand, oh they'll lift a finger alright.

Re: First Dance

she is not going to rain on my parade at all. I am too blessed to be stressed! you hear me!
i felt good towards the end of the visit. the only thing that bothered me was since she is "assisting" the Pastor is the ceremony, they were both going to wear robes but he said no. so she wanted to wear the robe cause she still cant find anything to wear. she asked me can she wear the robe for the night. FH and I both said NO at the same time because we dont want to see her like that in the pictures. We have the families color coordinated. So i gave her some alternate colors that still go with the colors of the day.

FH and I are gonna do a surprize dance.... we are gonna start off pretty slow with jaheims "forever" and then like a minute into the song bust into a hip hop dance to BBD's "poison" then jump back into jaheims "forever" as if nothing happened. Lol No one knows we are doing this so it will be funny. LOL

I saw something like that last night on youtube. the couple started off to one of the songs from Ghost and then the DJ switched over to Baby Got Back by Sir Mixalot and they did a routine. It was too funny but cute. Now that FH saw that he wants to do that, he was so excited to see something like that. he doesnt want alot of slow dancing for the first dances

Re: First Dance

Miss you guys!!! Have you thought of learning a n actual dance routine? I went to a wedding where the entire wedding party had learned a dance. Consider using a First Dance DVD. My hubby and I did a rumba. He is a nervous dancer so practicing something made him more comfortable. He even dipped me! LORD.

SHY: MILs are notorious for being difficult. Pray on it and just smile through the madness.

Ginoue I Just love "At Last" It give you chills when you hear it. So that will get my vote first. I have not heard "sweetest Kiss" yet, but the lyrics are SOOOO sweet.

Our first dance was also "At Last" by Etta James. I always dreamed of dancing our first dance to this song. Father-daughter dance was to "Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder. DH and I love us some Stevie. It gave us a chance to turn up the beat a notch. I also thought it was perfect b/c Stevie is singing about his own aughter in that song.

How about "Before I Let Go" by Frankie Beverly and Maze. I really wanted that song, but a friend of mine who is attending the wedding has already used it for hers.
Besides, my dad insists on "Isn't She Lovely" since he always said that that song reminds him of me since it came out around the time of my birth.

I used "Isn't She Lovely" for our Father and Daughter Dance! I love me some Stevie. The song is perfect for that because Stevie is singing about his daughter. After a slow first dance song, I wanted something with a little more up rhythm.

Since your father likes the song so much, why don't you use that for your father and daughter dance too...and use something else you and hubby like for your first dance.

First Dance

Our 1st dance will be to "The Love of my Life" by Brian McKnight. He is my all time favorite artist. FH's favorite song is Love's Holiday by Earth Wind and Fire so we may have to do a half/half thing. For the father/daughter-Unforgettable(Nat King Cole) or Sunshine Stevie Wonder are good choices.
We're not doing those dances. We are going to ask all the married couples to join us after our 1st dance for dancing to Al Greens "Stay together". We will eliminate couples according to years and the longest married couple will get a small token and be asked to give the bride & groom a word of advice for "staying together".

These three remain; faith, hope and love, but the greatest of these is love. Cor
