Re: Postponing Wedding

I am sorry to hear that you are going to postpone your wedding, however the samething happened to me. When me ad fh started planning the wedding we had absolutely no clue on how much things would cost, and on top of that i was having problems with family members and my bridal party, so we decided to postpone our wedding. I contacted my vendors and all of them let me postpone the date, charging me no extra fee's. I simply told my guest that unfortunately due to circumstance beyond our control we will be postponing our wedding ceremony.

Re: Postponing Wedding

So sorry Teresa to hear of your new "dilemma". When was the original date again? Well, I am with kaholgah--I know you have put alot of planning into the wedding, but again the focus is the marrige...I understand you not wanting to aske for help, so my suggestion would be:
~Have an intimate ceremony with just you, FH & family and still have a reception (if the budget allows) this way you can still wear your gown (if you have purchased it already) but it would cut down ceremony expenses.

But if your true desire is to have your dream wedding, then postpone (maybe 3-6 mnths) to give FH time to get another job and get everything back in order financially. I would hate for you to not have the wedding of your dreams if that is what you want because later you might regret it... Sad

Good luck in your decision..

~

Re: Postponing Wedding

Sorry to hear your FH lost his job and now you may need to postpone. Before postponing take a realistic view at what types of things you can scale back on and what other things can you do yourself without purchasing. No one knows your financial situation better than you but if you stay focused on the real reason for the day, you'll make the right decision for you and FH.

Re: Postponing Wedding

Teresa, I agree with your MIL, it's nothing but the devil and he's a liar. Recognized that he's a liar girl and then postpone your wedding to about 6 months and baby scale back a bit. If you were going to buy something? Find out how much the price is to buy it vs how much for you to make it. Get in the ball of DIY projects, that will save you bundles. Do not hire a Coordinator/Planner, instead, ask 2 really good friends to play host and hostess to your wedding. Sit down with your FH and speak openly and honestly about your finances. You could still have the wedding of your dreams 6 months from now and it'll be that much more special because you're handling a lot of those projects yourself.

Don't look negatively at the postponement. Instead, view it as God's way of wanting your day to be Fabulous!!! Call all your vendors and just tell them, just like housewife told you, that due to reasons beyond your control, you'll have to postpone your wedding to (new date). Have a date in mind before you make that call. Don't be upset Diva. God's got this, He'd already blessed your FH with another Job. Go around the house like a crazy woman, if that's what it takes. Praise the name of Jesus!!! Keep thanking him for your FH, for your lives together, for his job. Now is the time that you have to go by faith!!! The devil is a liar and you and your FH will be just fine!!!

Re: Postponing Wedding

Hey ladies, I too need your help. I had to postpone my wedding date from 05/26/2008 to 08/09/2008. Being that invitations with the original date were sent out and recalled, I need the proper wording for sending out the date reset invitations. Please help a sister out!

Re: Postponing Wedding

Depends truelove. If you had a planner, she/he would send out cancellations on your behalf with a new date to soon follow. As soon as you came up with a new date, another Save-the-date card should've been sent out to all of your guests, informing them of the new date and invitations to follow. Then when you're ready, new invites would've been sent out. This is for the formal wedding.

I'm not sure if you're having a casual, laid back type of wedding whereas, if you had a wedding website, you could call everyone and post the postponment on your website as well and new save-the date cards sent. This would prevent the awkwardness of having to come up with a new way of wording invites. So, how was your postponement handled? Very important to know so I could advise you on how to proceed.

Re: Postponing Wedding

Our situations were very similar. I was to get married 5/24/08 and postponed until 8/8/08. I hadn't sent out invitations for the 1st date however.

How long ago were the original invitations sent? When did you decide to postpone? Had you already begun receiving RSVPs? Is the location changing as well? How many people are on your guest list?

My simple answer would be: Go to VistaPrint and print out an annoucement on their standard postcards. They usually have 100 free, you just pay shipping. They have several designs to choose from or you can design your own and upload.

The wording could go something like:

The marriage of
Ms. Jane Doe
and
Mr. John Smith
has been postponed until
Saturday the eighth of August
Two Thousand Eight

All other details remain unchanged.
Please RSVP by *date* using the original RSVP sent with your invitation. Thank you.

HTH!
