Ginoue wrote: Okay, major updates, but I'll try to keep each ideas separate. First and foremost, I lost my baker!!! I mean, I'm freaking out here!!! I understand her reasons for backing out on me, but darn, that means that I would have to reevaluate things. Here's the cake that I want.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I know it's big, but I was hoping to find someone to make it for me for about $700 - $800. So far, FH and I have spoken with at least a dozen bakers today and the cheapest I found it was $1,343 and that was at Publix. I mean, I was advise that a cake that tall couldn't have any filling or it will slide. I understood that. Do you guys think that it's a reasonable amount to spend on the cake? It's one thing when you're the planner and it's not your money or your wedding, but an entire thing altogether when it's your wedding you're planning in this joke of an economy. HELP DIVAS!!!

Hi Ginoue, have you checked with the family in Florida to find out if anyone knows a good local baker who doesn't charge these crazy prices for cake? For instance, ours was baked by a local baker in STT who's family has been baking cakes for weddings for many years, but they don't charge those crazy commercial prices. Our 5 tiers (she added an extra tier as a gift), plus tarts, plus black cake, plus a sheet cake, was about $300 - $400...and everything was delicious! More delicious than we would have received from the hotel.

What do you ladies think?

I've yet to find gifts for my 4 flowergirls and my ringbearer. Any suggestions Divas?

FH is in charge of purchasing gifts for the guys. I don't know if that's such a great idea. I may have to rethink that task.

Beautiful selection, Ginoue.

Re: GINOUE'S BLOG

I remember seeing these shoes that either Pamcrow or Diva T. posted, but the more I look at them, the more I love them, eventhough, they would not be seen under my dress much. I like the fact that the heels are low because FH is shorter than I and I don't want to dwarf the man (LOL)

Re: GINOUE'S BLOG

Gin your jewelry will compliment your gown nicely. Good choice. I really like the earrings. As far as the shoes, girl if you call those heels low, I'm scared of you Miss Thang...LOL. I'm not sure if your dress will be ivory or white but the one pair of shoes "Lily Ann" comes in white and isn't recommended for dying.

Re: GINOUE'S BLOG

CAKE ISSUE RESOLVED!!!

Remember how I was going back and forth on my cake since my baker was going through some things? I started looking into Publix as a back up baker and they wanted an exhorbitant amount? Well, I went back and forth with Publix as I just couldn't see myself paying nearly twice the amount that my baker was going to charge me for the cake. So, I did what I always do for any of my clients, I barterred, and we came to a compromise. I have a few weddings in Florida and I've turned my brides onto the savings of Publix and I was able to work out a major break in my cake. So here's what we're doing now:

This is my original Dream Cake with 5 tiers.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Okay, so the new compromise on my Dream cake would come at 4-tiers instead of 5. The 4-tier cake would serve 239 people and cost $691. I'm still not able to have my filling in the cake because it will slide. I could have Bevarian Cream filling, but I was advised not to leave it standing for too long either or it will slide. I could decide to just have the Buttercream filling in the cake instead and it won't go nowhere. That's something to think about. So, isn't that a wonderful saving? From $1,342 to $691 WOOHOO!!! So we're back to my dream cake, but instead of having the original version that would feed 300 people but 5 tiers and fillings thatt will slide for $1342, I now have a 4-tier cake feeding 239 people with a possible Bevarian Cream filling or buttercream filling for $691. I'm happy and I saved $651.00

Re: GINOUE'S BLOG

Pam, thank you so much, but you know what? I'm use to much higher shoes and yes, for me this is considered low. You know another thing sister, those were the same sandals I was considering because the detailing would go perfectly with my gown, but since I do intend to wear Ivory, It would not go. Now, I'm still in need of some killer blinged out sandals that are not too tall.

I'll keep looking though. Nice looking out sister.

Re: GINOUE'S BLOG

BACK TO MY DREAM SANDALS!!!

YEAH!!! I was able to find the Lilly Ann Satin sandals at sonjasbride.com for only $98 and I can dye them the color of my gown, Ivory. WOOHOO!!!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Now for the other matter. I love those shoes and I'm 5'7". FH is shorter as I've mentioned. He's about 5'4 or 5'5". The heels on the sandals are 3" which would make me at about 5'9"/5'10". I don't really want to appear way taller than my FH, but what do I do now? I will be way up there and he'll still be down there. I'm not trying to be funny. I just don't want to tower over him too much. Now that I know that I could have my sandals. I'll try to find lower hilled sandals. Thing is, I can't wear my gown with slippers (Though I do plan to slip into some at the reception to dance the night away!!!). That would save me a lot of hassles.
I could wear those instead. They're about 2 1/2" and they cost $95 and are dyeable as well.

Lily Ann is my favorite Saugus shoe! I ordered the sample in my size four times, and each pair sold. I have a size 7.5 sample left. BTW-they run a half size large.

Niquey what does the shoe say about dying them? Gin or Butterbean, if you can fit a 7.5, this could be your lucky day.

The Saugus Shoe is wonderful. I agree!!! Blingerific, unfortunately, I have big feet (size 10). I wish I wore a size 7.5. I would jump of those sandals. Are you kidding me?

Ginoue, I totally understand your dilemma in finding the right shoes. My DH and I are the same height (5'6) He swears he's 1/2 inch taller than me (5'6 1/2) LOL.. But you can see from our pictures thats not the case. BUT GIRL...I didnt want to be much taller than him either so let me tell you what I wore under my gown....

Re: GINOUE'S BLOG

CMT I ain't mad at ya. My DH is only about 2 inches taller than me and I bought a pair of ballerina flats to wear ($10 on ebay) but my Dad and MOH talked about them so bad. My dad was like "Nah baby, keep looking." Eventually I found these:

I just jazzed them up by adding a rhinestone brooch.

There are two different Lily Ann's. One is silk and not dyeable the other is satin and dyes very well.

Ginoue, I wear a 10 too!

Re: GINOUE'S BLOG

LOL...well FH is 6'1 and I am 5'4 and I STILL wore ballerina slippers!! I had to chose between being cute with hurt feet or cute and comfy...I chose the latter... LOL

So Diva G--go head and work your flats...I like CMT's suggestion though have some "cute" garter toss shoes...I didn't have to worry about that because DH refused to do that part at our reception!!!

Re: GINOUE'S BLOG

Niquey, I've been so busy girl, it's not funny. I've been taking care of every body's details but my own. By the time I get home on Sunday Mornings, I'm so tired that all I do is sleep. It doesn't look that things will slow down for me until late March, but I'll stop by at least once a week. I miss my sisters. I haven't had the time to do anything. So much is happening at once, as soon as I have the breathing room, I'll give more details. FH is frustrated with me because he doesn't see me as much as before.
