Does Age Matter, Attendants

Just read the following article:

Grandma, 92, is Michigan woman's matron of honor
Michigan woman asks her 92-year-old grandmother to be her matron of honor

Associated Press

SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Many brides-to-be pick best friends to serve as their maids or matrons of honor. But Erica Schultz's best buddy isn't a high school friend or a college pal. It's her 92-year-old grandmother.

Angelene Schultz will stand beside her granddaughter when the 26-year-old marries Mark James on Oct. 18 in Bay City.

"She is my best friend," said Erica, who owns a Web design business with her fiance. "When my grandpa died, she bought a house down the street from our family. We both needed someone.

"I still go over to her house every day, to get her mail and prescriptions," she told The Saginaw News.

Schultz used to run down the street to her grandmother's house during high school, to share her "teen drama" and have girlfriends sleep over. She even lived there for a year during college.

When Schultz met James in 2001, they stopped by Angelene Schultz's house on the night of their first date.

And the woman known as Busha or Granny-Mae has been no bystander in the wedding planning process.

She helped choose the wedding gown and will wear her own red dress to the ceremony.

"I feel it is a big honor for me to be in the wedding party, and I'm happy to do it, even if I do raise some eyebrows," said the woman who has five children, 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

My opinion is if Grandma can handle it, then let her do it!!! Smile it is the brides choice anyway, so if she chooses granny, then let granny do her thang!!!!!!!!! Smile

I think that's beautiful! What a blessing! That kind of thing just chokes me up. Hooray for her for choosing her grandma rather than somebody who might give her drama. You go, girl! My grandma is 89, and I totally understand. I was just so happy to even have my nana at our wedding. Ours was the first she was able to attend for any of her grandchildren...and she can't stop talking about it. SurprisedD

Re: Does Age Matter, Attendants

I think the sentiment is very sweet but if I was perfectly honest, I don't think I could do it. Maybe if I was having a very intimate ceremony where we both were only going to have one or two people standing with us, then maybe I could. I can't even picture what style of dress Grandma would wear that would look good along side the bridesmaid dresses. I know that's a very vain thing to say, but I'm just being truthful.

Re: Does Age Matter, Attendants

If granny had the energy to go dress shopping with the girl, then I'm all for her being a MOH.
I'm totally feeling the bride when it comes to selecting bridesmaids. I'm just not that close to other girls my age. I have a very skimpy selection of younger girlfriends to choose. The girl who had me as a bridesmaid has been MIA ever since, and my other childhood friend is living in California with her growing family..so I'm not going to bother asking her to be in my party. All three of my bridesmaids (2 cousins and an aunt) are 35 to 40 years of age except for my lil' sis who is my MOH.

I think it is a beautiful jesture. She is very blessed.

However, personally I would rather have my Grandma sit in a place of honor and just look beautiful. Perhaps I would give her a special tribute or something along those lines.

Rhony, you said that so well Smile In my mind I was thinking Grandma would have to just look gorgeous on the side lines but the way you phrased it....'sit in place of honor'....sounds so much better. I'm going have to hire you to be my PR Manager..LOL
