Budget Bride

I was just reading the Essence email and I came upon a bride who spent 6000 on her entire wedding and it was nice. She did a couple DIY so it got me thinking has anyone here had or planning to have a wedding with the cost being 6000 and under. I would love to see how your wedding turned out or what you plan to do to keep it under your budget.

Here is the article http://www.celebrityweddingbuzz.com/celebrity_weddings/2008/12/bride-throws-dr.html

What do you think Ladies???

Me personally I think for it being a "Big City" $6000 was a great price but I didnt see anything that was a WOW!! Factor. Maybe I am looking for more details. Im sure there are other brides who have spent less or the same amount who's wedding was on a budget and didnt look like a budget, just IMO.

Re: Budget Bride

Good for her.

My question is, what kind of SPA has a $26 mani-pedi??? The spa I go to charges, $40 for a pedi, alone! Then, I looked at the photos, and it was clarified: $23 for the mani-pedi at a local nail salon. There is a difference.

I'm thinking...ah, good enough! As long as it was beautiful, to her.

Re: Budget Bride

Her dress is pretty, but I can tell that she was one of those brides who had bought a smaller size feeling that she can lose the weight to fit into it. I almost did that and thankfully thought better of it.

yeah I agree-the hair could have been just a little "cuter" but I do like the music note idea instead of guest book!

Re: Budget Bride

I applaud her for being creative and doing what she had to do to meet their budget. I wasn't looking for it to be spectacular...It was simple and elegant...nothing wrong with that. I wish them much happiness.

The only thing that really stood out to me was her gown. Instead of a sweetheart neckline, she should have purchased a straight across strapless or one with straps or a halter top so that there would be more coverage in the bosom area...or like Butterbean mentioned, maybe it was entirely too small. Ugh!

I didn't think her hair was that bad. Personally, I would have gone for a more defined look.  Hair is much more visible than nails. I've never had my nails professionally done. I have a phobia regarding those nail salons because you're always hearing about people getting infections b/c the technicians don't clean their instruments properly....and....what's up with the technicians all wearing masks while their customers inhale all that stuff? LOL! I could have also had my cousin do my nails since she does that for a living, but I totally forgot, and she didn't let me know she was coming until the week before. When she saw my nails, she was amazed that they weren't professional.

WELL..... I just looked at the pics, AND... uhh...I think you just can't afford to cut back in some areas, such as Hair, Nails and MakeUp. especially for YOUR OWN WEDDING.

I didn't think her hair was that bad. Personally, I would have gone for a more defined look. She could have purchased some $5.00 acrylics from the drug store like I did (they make some really nice ones now) and put them on herself and put more money towards her hair. Hair is much more visible than nails. I've never had my nails professionally done. Looking at the pic your nails look great! I have never tried them. I might though as I have given up acrylic because of the germs they carry. I could just wear the ones like you had for a special occasions.

Thanks, Michelle. They even have them for your toes now! I "hooked it up" for my special occasion. Otherwise, I manicure my own mid-length nails.

Re: Budget Bride

yeah ViPrincess. Your nails look great. I wouldn't have known they were'nt professionally done either if you had'nt mentioned it.

One of my friendsdoes her own right out of the package. She always use the ones that have the airbrushed finish and they always look great.

Yep! Those nails went on like 5 minutes before the ceremony. LOL!

DIY! DIY! If it wasn't for my fear, I'd have treated myself, though.

Re: Budget Bride

They do toes. I have seen women in the summer with acrylic toe nails from the salons. I would be too afraid of them getting ingrown.

Keepup, they should have done that article on you! My cousin did tell me that her wedding a few years ago was less than $1500 because of all the hook-ups her banquet manager husband at the time had. She also wore the gown her mother wore from a 2nd wedding.

Thanks, Ronny! I'm taking a cue from the celebrities...mixing expensive with the inexpensive..and working it! LOL! I think my nails were by far the least expensive thing in my entire attire.
