GINOUE'S UPDATED BLOG

Okay!!! Here we go again, giving it a final try. I've been meaning to update my blog, but I'm not sure if it's because the original one is so big, it's taking forever to load. I know that it's not my PC because I just got this one for Christmas.

Anywhoo!!!, back to me (hahahahahaha!!!) I'm the Diva already, right? (Joking!!!) Okay, here's where we are right now.

Re: GINOUE'S UPDATED BLOG

We've made some revisions to our Wedding Date, because my sister ~ who's also one of my Matron Of Honor was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and as a result, my FH and I decided to push our wedding back a few months to allow ample time for chemo and she was worried about her hair growing back. So, please sisters, keep my sister in your prayers at night. The doctors said that they caught it in time, so we shouldn't worry, but she's looking at 6 - 9 months of total treatment and recup time, so... Thanks in advance for your prayers. I know you have your own burdens to bring to the Lord, but if you could just remember my sister in your prayers, I'd appreciate it and many more blessings will come your way.

There's also some drama people about the location of the wedding. Read on, you'll see!!! (Never a Dull moment in my life)

On to some happy stuff!!!

My FH and I was formally engaged on September 23rd, 2008 in Fort-Lauderdale, FL

After preliminary counseling with my Pastor and in order to avoid some major drama from my mother-in-law's church, we've decided to have the wedding in Maryland after all. So, FH and I will be married in Adelphi, MD; also known as Hyattsville, MD, on February 13th, 2010 at 6:00 P.M. and the reception will start at 8:00 P.M. We will be married in my church "Eglise Baptiste Du Calvaire". We will be sending out about 160-175 invitations, but planning on 150 guests. Our theme is still "Classic Elegance" and our wedding colors are still the same Dusty Rose, Merlot, Champagne & Gold. It will be very much a traditional Haitian Christian Wedding, with the traditional wedding dances down the aisle by the bridal party.

This is a picture of the church

This is just the center 2 as the sanctuary is equipped to hold over 3,000 people at our service.

Re: GINOUE'S UPDATED BLOG

It's still a very close call when it comes to my wedding dress. My first choice is still this one, though, I just didn't like the way my MOH was looking when I tried it on. She finally said that there was nothing wrong with the dress, it's just that it didn't look very modern. I'm thinking "did you get the email about my theme being Classic Elegance? Anywhoo, here they are:

but in Champagne and Dusty Rose instead of the way it looks

And this is the dress of my dreams

Re: GINOUE'S UPDATED BLOG

The bridesmaids were given lots of gown choices. My only requirements was that they had to be in Merlot and Dusty Rose. A few months ago, they narrowed down their choices to 2 different gowns. As of a week ago, they all agreed to one gown choice. They spoke to both my Matron of Honors about their choices and it was my Matron of Honors who came to me with their choices. So, here they are:

In Dusty Rose

In Merlot (Same Gown)

My MOHs gowns remained the same

My Ladies-In-Waiting (Hostesses) will also remain the same

Re: GINOUE'S UPDATED BLOG

Be that we'd already booked and payed for our DJ ($450), he has agreed to still spin for that price. So, FH and I will pay for his accommodations. He's a friend of FH's and since he's in NY, he'll be driving down with some of the guests. He was very happy to accommodate.

RECEPTION HALL ~ We have been offered the Church's reception hall for free, provided there's no dancing or secular music of any kind.

The dilema is that not all of our guests are christians and we all want to dance, so I'm looking at several reception halls in the area that will allow us to bring in an outside caterer. I haven't made up my mind yet as to what I want to do.

Re: GINOUE'S UPDATED BLOG

I found this lady that will make my cake for me for $600.00 and that includes set-up and delivery too!!!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Ladies, sometimes, you'll find that within your church are some hidden talents. The lady that's making my cake goes to my church and she was planning on starting her own business. She was the one that did the cake for our Pastor's 27th wedding anniversary and it was great. So, ladies, please ask around your church, you'll find that a lot of people got the type of talent you need to make your wedding a hit and you'll have their services for a major discount.

Re: GINOUE'S UPDATED BLOG

In keeping with our theme "Classic Elegance" we plan on using pictures of stars from the Silver Screen era for our Table Cards. So far, the name of our tables are: Audrey Hepburn, Billie Holliday, Deborah Kerr, Dorothy Dandridge, Elizabeth Tailor, Ertha Kitt, Grace Kelly, Greta Garbo, Ingrid Bergman, James Stewart, Laurence Olivier, Lena Horne, Maureen O'Hara, Olivia De Haviland, Robert Montgomery, , Cary Grant, Fred Astaire, Charlton Heston, Gary Cooper, Josephine Baker and Katherine Dunham.

We're missing 2 more names and pictures, so if anyone could think of someone that I've missed, your input would be greatly appreciated.

Re: GINOUE'S UPDATED BLOG

You know what, there's this place in the Bronx called "Gowns by Louise" and I'm trying to get there to try on the dress, but so far, I've missed 2 appointments with them. With my sister's condition, I've been doing a lot of running with her. I'm hoping to make it in there soon as I'll still be in NY until Mid-February or so. I'm hoping it's the "IT" gown for me. If not, I don't even have a back up plan (lol).

We've received all 12 (5-piece) plate settings that we've registered for in the "Opal Innocence". To those who don't remember, it looks like this. There's still a lot more to this set, but I've got time and my family is very, very, very generous when it comes to china.

I also received all place settings for my my Noritake Crestwood Cobalt set.

For my hairstyle, I've decided on this one. I've also decided to go more natural-looking. I don't want to look eavily made up.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I've purchased the replica of Audrey Hepburn's tiara and jewelry set, the one she wore on "Roman Holiday" .I will not be wearing the earrings however because my ears are pierced and the earrings are clip ons.

Re: GINOUE'S UPDATED BLOG

G, my prayers are with you and your family. I've experienced what you're going thru, and I know how difficult the situation can be. It gave us more reason to give praise and to celebrate our wedding when the time came. God is with you. Please let me know if you want to chat.

I also think it's nice that you'll be getting married in your own church. You're familiar with the people, and it sounds like there will be less drama. I'm happy you found a "cake lady!" That's the way to go when you don't have a Publix in your area. Our "cake lady" also made our cake in her home. It was a family buisines handed down from her own mother. We saved so much money, and being "homemade" it was so delicious. Generally speaking, VI people like to get cakes and pastries for special occasions homemade.

Thank you so much for your well wishes on behalf of my sister. I truly appreciate it. I'm finding quite a bit within my own church community that I didn't know existed. Our pastor decided to make a directory of the church members in order to promote their businesses and or talents.

Re: GINOUE'S UPDATED BLOG

Here are some more Old Hollywood names:

Hattie Mc Daniel - first African American to be nominated for and win an Oscar.

Paul Robeson - scholar, athlete, actor, singer, writer, civil rights activist

Humphrey Bogart, Katherine Hepburn, Bette Davis, Judy Garland, Joan Crawford, Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, James Cagney, Gregory Peck, Marlene Dietrich, Claudette Colbert, Ginger Rogers, Rita Hayworth, Ava Gardner, Lauren Bacall, Barbara Stanwyck, Gene Kelly, Betty Grable, Mae West, and John Wayne

The tables could also be names of various films. It would be nice if you could find an old theater to do the reception with red carpet, velvet rope and all. Your reception can be like an Old Hollywood premiere. Your arriving guests can have their pics snapped by the "paparazzi" as they walk the red carpet. When you and hubby make your grand entrance inside, they stand and applause the stars.

You could do flavored popcorn for some of your favors in nice bags or containers, and/or a candybar featuring movie theater favorites: junior mints, mike & ike, milk duds, whoppers, raisinets, kitkats, skittles, m&m's, etc.

If the gown you've chosen doesn't pan out, you can find a vintage style wedding gown here: www.vintagestyleclothing.com I read a note on the web about their great customer service including working with a bride stationed in the North Pole! The site might give you some ideas if nothing more. Since your wedding will now be in Maryland in January, you can also wear a fur stole with your gown. That's very old hollywoodesque.

Check out Ms. Demi Moore in Old Hollywood style:

an image

She has on a fur jacket, but I'm thinking a stole for you. Something like this:

an image

...and here are the centerpieces I mentioned in Sweet P's blog:

an image

This one is called Crystal Fountain on sale for $39.99 at www.centerpiecestore.com

They would look very classic and pretty for your own wedding Ginoue,

If you don't use them as centerpieces, you can add a few throughout the room for effect.

...and you could add them to your wedding business stuff when you're done...and hey, if you do that, you could probably deduct it on your taxes as a business expense.

VIPrincess, the stole is magnificent, but my church has a "Cover Up" policy, which means that my shoulders and underarm must be covered. So, I was planning on wearing a very nice lacey Bolero Jacket. Do you ladies happen to have some pictures to share with me? I'll be greatful.

G, I like the dress you posted. It's pretty. My only concern is that your theme is Old Hollywood Classic Elegance and pick-ups are very modern and trendy. At least your first choice only had them in the back. It's your day of course, and I'm sure you'll look gorgeous in whatever you finally try on and choose.

Ginoue wrote: We've made some revisions to our Wedding Date, because my sister ~ who's also one of my Matron Of Honor was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and as a result, my FH and I decided to push our wedding back a few months to allow ample time for chemo and she was worried about her hair growing back.

So, FH and I will be married in Adelphi, MD; also known as Hyattsville, MD, on January 9th, 2010 at 6:00 P.M. and the reception will start at 8:00 P.M.

I am soooo sorry to hear about your sister. I am glad that they caught it in time. The important thing is to be there for her and spend as much time as you can. I took my mom to a makeover for cancer patients called "look good feel better" We had an awesome time!Always have something to so such as planning your wedding or working out that way when she recovers you will still have a life.

YOu are getting married on my birthday! Happy planning.

Hey Mo!!! Take a look at this wonderful suggestion that VIPrincessbride made for me. What do you think?

I really love Sapphire and Harlow.

I think Harlow and SD5204 are red carpet bangin'!

Grace Kelly, Grace Lynette, and Angela have a very appealing classic antique innocence.

Sapphire, Flora, and Jessica are wedding day elegance.

Re: GINOUE'S UPDATED BLOG

You know Monique, VIPrincess, I love everything that you guys have shown me. To say that I'm a Mary's Bridal fanatic wouldn't begin to cover it, but at the end of the day, I still love my gown, so maybe I could revise the theme a bit. I love the elegance and simplicity of the first gown you know. I just didn't like the look of my MOHs faces when I came out wearing it. I didn't even want a picture taken with me in it. Remember this one!!! It is still my first choice, maybe I'll leave it as a close 2nd.

Mo has offered to take me places while I'm in NY and I plan to take her up on it. Maybe I'll find something I like. I do have plenty of time as I don't have to order my gown until June/July.

Re: GINOUE'S UPDATED BLOG

I also love Maggie Sottero, but it's the price that's out of my budget. Remember, I still have to purchase that faux-fur bolero jacket (wow, I love that one, thanks VIPrincess) and my total budget for gown and jacket is $1,000 not including alterations.

From your selections, I like "Harlow" "Flora"

I agree the first choice was gorgeous! There used to be a very similar gown on their website, but I don't see it anymore.

The only one remotely similar is this one: Style: #S088615

But if it's the cut of the first gown that didn't suit you, maybe you need a different style.

Going to NY and looking is a great plan. There's so much available there! You'd be surprised about Maggie Sottero though. I found some prices very comparable to Mary's Bridal. They both make great gowns that are budget friendly. My own Maggie gown was under $1,000 excluding alterations. There are also trunk shows for a great sale or even Filene's Running of the Brides.

Re: GINOUE'S UPDATED BLOG

I'm very familiar with Filene's Running of the bride, but I may pass on this one because I won't have a lot of people to help me pull gowns. I've been to one event with a friend and those ladies in there is crazy. I got toppled a few times, then got into this tug of war with this bride that I had to kick away from the hem of my firend's dress. It's not very friendly at all in there, but it's a lot of fun if you have about half a dozen or so people with you pulling gowns for you.

Re: GINOUE'S UPDATED BLOG

LOL! I was wondering if anybody here had been to it. I've seen the shows on TV. Some brides make a killing with the gown selection. A team is definitely necessary and a determined frame of mind, I guess. Some teams put on bright wigs and t-shirts so that they can easily recognize each other in the sea of people. They also use whistles and other accessories. There was a Friends episode that was similar to a Filene's Basement Running of the Brides. Hilarious!

I believe Baltimore usually has a Running of the Brides at Filenes, but I didn't see it listed on the the calendar as yet.

I'm going to make an effort of finding that Mary's gown. I know how it is when you see the one you have to have.

Re:Re: GINOUE'S UPDATED BLOG

Okay ladies, I know it's been a while since my last update, but as you know, I've had a lot on my plate recently and was trying my best to keep all things afloat.
As far as my sister goes, the doctors seem to think that she's responding to chemo fairly well, but her treatment just started, they're optimistic though because they caught it early.  I want to thank all my Vibride sisters for their continuing prayers on behalf of my sister.
Ok, I'm going to do my best to update my Diva sisters on what are solid so far for our wedding.  This may be a bit long, so kick back relax and bear with me.  Thanks.
