Just joined

I'm new to Vibride. I've visited a few times last year and liked what I saw. I got engaged on New Years Eve so Jan 1st was an exciting day. Everyone from family, friends to co-workers has expressed so much excitement and happiness for us. The wedding is already scheduled for July 11, 2009. We had decided that before we got officially engaged. So, yes I have my work cut out for me. We have essentially planned out everything we want down to theme & colors. Now we have to put everything in place. Wish me luck!

The 7/11 bride

These three remain; faith, hope and love, but the greatest of these is love. Cor

Newbie

Hi Guys new the site and newly engaged. I know from reading a few post that everyone likes details. I only have a few. My wedding will be in April of 2010 which gives me plenty of time to plan. I've only picked one of  my colors which is chocolate a/k/a expresso. If anyone has any suggestions on accent colors I would really appreciate it.

Re:Newbie

Welcome ynvbecca and congratulations on your engagement and upcoming nuptials.  I am also using chocolate for my Sept '09  wedding along with champagne and ivory.  I have also seen brides use mint green, aqua, or pink with brown as well.  There are probably so many colors you could work in with the chocolate.  I'm sure you will get a lot of feedback from the other sistahs on the board.

Excited new member!

Wow I wish I had found this site a long time ago.  I got engaged last March 08 and my wedding is in August.  Does any body have any ideas about where to get a wedding broom from, or any ideas about how to make one.  By the way I live in Houston, so if there is anyone who needs my assistance with Houston vendors I've looked at them all.  Right now I'm in the process of gathering the small things such as guest books, jumping broom, accesories, linens, candles and etc.  I just purchased a wedding card box from theperfectcardbox.com.  The will hold all wedding and gift cards, and I can insert 8X10 photos all around it.  I have found some exciting things to make the wedding memorable such as  a photo booth like the ones in the mall. They will print photos of the guests, thet can keep and copy and then they will place the other copy in a scapbook with a message to us.
Just a little about our wedding ............
Venue
Both the ceremony and reception will be a ballroom on a safari ranch.  The guests will go into another room for cocktails while the room is being transformed.  This has saved us alot of money having both at the same place and people don't have to travel to two different locations.  I was a little worries about transforming the room in a hour but the venue suggested using pipe draping to cover the tables that will be set with everyhing other than the floral arrangements.  The pipe draping is really elegant and the room is big enough to where there will be ten in each corner of the room covered with the draping.
The colors are sage and chocolate but accented with gold.  The accent of gold will come in on the plate chargers, matron of honor dress, flatware, grandmother dresses, and floating candles.
The bridesmaid dresses came from a boutique in Houston which ordered them from the Bill Levkoff website.  I gave my bridesmaids a whole year ahead to pay on the dresses they will be back in two weeks.  I suggest giving your bridesmaids at least a six months notice because someone always has an excuse as to why they can't make a payment and sometimes things really do come up.
For decorations I am using a local Houston Decorator that is very reasonable Affordable Affairs.  She is doing waterfalls down the aisles and water tubes with flower arrangements on top of them for the stage.  I am also renting spot lights from her to shine soft green light on the sides of the wall.  I rented what is called a chuppah for the stage as well.  This is usually used in Jewish weddings but it's very pretty and it will be decorated with linen and flowers.
For the flowers I went with a lady who does florals part time therefore her prices were much cheaper.  She is making arrangements with a few hydrangas, curly willow and other flowers a I can't remember.  These will go on every other table.  On the other tables there will be tall cylinder vases with curly willow and orchids submerged.  This really cut down on floral costs and its still pretty.
As for linens I really had to shop around because I hated the linens that the venue had and this is an added expense.  I finally found a decorator that rents linens at Decor to Remember.  She also gave me the news of my dreams last week.  I wanted a lounge area from the start to make the reception have an urban sheek club atmosphere, but I thought there was only one lounge rental company in Houston.  I was wrong Decor to remember has lounge furniture way cheaper then the other place.  So now Im getting lounge furniture and lpintuck linens for the price of just the lounge furniture at the other place.  I was so happy..  My fiance and I love to party so we are trying to make the reception a huge party.
Also we knew we wanted open bar but we thought we couldn't afford it.  Well this venue had a package tha tcame with open bar for dirt cheap, after that we were sold.
For favors I wanted to give guests alot of gifts, but on a budget.  So far I orderd matches from the knot.com.  They came back perfect in sage and chocolate.  I also wanted miniature wine bottles, so I went to Specs.com and ordered several of the mniature wines and ordered labels from wrappersandmore.com.  I was able to include a picture and our wedding date.  I also feel in love with latest craze a candy buffet.  It is do expensive to get a service to do it, so I went to just about every Ross, Marshall's, and thrift store to find glass vases.  Then I went to bulkfoods.com and blaircandy.com to order green candy.  I will purchase the chocolate candy in Houston because it costs too much to ship things that will melt.
As far as the honeymoon is concerned we weren't going on one at first because we were footing most of the bill on this wedding ourselves.  But we ended up catching a Jamaican Sandals Resort Vacation on sale and we were able to set up a honeymoon gift registry through sandals.  So hopefully the other half will be payed for by guests.  But just in case it's not we are saving for it.
SAVE THE DATES- Over a year ago I was at Michael's craft store and I saw some save the date magnets on the clearance rack.  I went to several Michael's and bought them all.  I was able to print them with a picture.  You can also order these DIY save the dates on wiltonprint.com.
And last but not least I set up a wedding website which has been very nice to have so far.  I set it up last August so guest could recieve information about the wedding a year ahead and they can also view our pictures.
If you have any suggestions for me please don't hesitate to contact me.
