I especially love the cupcake wedding cake. SO beautiful! The tabletop design is just spectacular as well. Jaw dropping to be sure.
Black and white is simply stunning. Add any color, no matter how subtle, and it just screams sophistication.

Welcome to the site ndavis. It is never too early to start planning. I too am a 2010 bride and have been planning for many years. You don't have to have a theme, that's a personal choice, it just helps you to set the tone for the wedding. You have started wonderfully with choosing your colors. I am using the Red and silver, so we have that in common also. I look forward to seeing your plans unfold.

It's not too early to plan. You can use this time to look at venues and find out cost and down payments so you can save up ahead. Go to some bridal shows for ideasd too. I got engaged on New Years and the wedding is in July so we are paying all the deposits now! If I had more time, it would be better.
These three remain; faith, hope and love, but the greatest of these is love. Cor

i think, or should I say, I know the purple and silver will definetly look pretty. I used lavender and silver and it was absolutely beautiful. BUT, purple is my favorite color so I would be the one to say that. LOL

It would'nt be a wedding if we didn't change our mind at least once!
Here is an inspiration board that was submitted to our gallery:
I especially love the wedding cake with the silver fondant circles and purple flowers.

That being said, there are so many great dishes that would give you the look of fine china without the added expense. Speak with your planner about it or I could suggest a few. Let me know and welcome on Board sister Diva
