Planning for my grandparents' 50th anniversary

an image
It's going to be a vow renewal. We are going to have it at my parents' backyard in August. So far, they want me to be in charge of the cake.
I'm also going to submit their picture and story to Jet Magazine.

How romantic! It makes me feel good to see a couple still together  through children, fights, war, more children, lol. God bless them I hope they have many more years together. Shameless plug: We have really cool things for 50th anniversary events at the Shop.

Hi Princess.
My grandmother's favorite color is purple so it's going to be white, gold and lavender.
It's going to be at my parents' house, so I'm looking for house party pictures for inspiration. I can use these photos for some inspiration since it's close to the gold, white and lavender:,an image

For our front door:

We've got a lot of furniture to move.
I'm going to bounce these ideas to my aunts and cousins. So far, they loved my lantern idea, but we are scrapping the praise dancers. My cousin wants to hire a church band that we know, which would be nice.   We only have till Aug 15th to do all this stuff. *sigh*

Re:Planning for my grandparents' 50th anniversary

You still have a month so it's all good! lol I wore that hairstyle just before I got pregnant this last time. Not as easy to pull off. You can look CRAZY if you do it wrong or hairdresser cuts it wrong.

I LOVE THE IDEA OF LIGHT FRUITY FAUX COCKTAILS. iT FEELS LIKE A PARTY AND NO ONE GETS DRUNK. Also consider having photos of their marriage out for others to see. Some highlights of their life together. Put them in pretty frames by the door or just hang them up with pins around the house. The photo centerpieces shown are from Martha Stewart. They are shown strung on a "line" in the inspiration board. Simple favors for the guests couldbe homemade cookies. Your Grandmother's favorite cookie recipe maybe.
Candles make a perfect centerpiece, but consider putting them in unusual vessels rather than smple taper holders. It will add interest to your tables. Get cute invitations to make the event extra special.

Re:Re:Planning for my grandparents' 50th anniversary

Rosie, I love the photograph idea and will be using it. It's too bad that they didn't get a chance to have a wedding back then, but there are a few pictures that I can scan.
So far, we have a band booked for just $600!!
I've learned not to tell my tightwad father anything. If everything went his way, we would have had a dinner at a table with no music involved. He is being obnoxious at this point.
My cousins are being pain-in-the-butts too with their procrastinating. *sigh*

Re:Re:Re:Planning for my grandparents' 50th anniversary

WEEEELLLLLLLL..... Apparently my ideas were too over-the-top for my folks.
Instead of the nice golden teired cake, they had ordered a sheet cake from Coscto instead. It better be a nice one.
The band has been scrapped. Understandibly so. My husband and I are loading up the laptop with some nice tunes. It's been fun doing this so far and we are saving a lot of money in the process.
I still have no entertainment to provide. My dad wants us to sing-along to something a la The Cosby Show and want us to practice. That is, like, totally lame. But it's something for us to do. It might be fun.
I'm still excited over all this. I've got my grandmama a lovely tiara and I bought some nice champange and yellow lights to give our house a nice golden glow.
When it comes time for my parent's 50th, we are having it large.
My grandparent's article is still not published, just as I thought it wouldn't be. My gift for them would be their article in a scrapbook frame presented like this. I can't wait! Hopefully, it's someone fabulous on the cover and not some tragic story featured.

With my parents it's my mom that isthe tightwad. Daddy never cares how much things cost! He will do whatever I want! lol

I think I like the idea of the laptop muxic. It would make the party more intimate AND more personal. Especially if you find out what their all time favorite songs are.

Re:Re:Re:Re:Planning for my grandparents' 50th anniversary

DO you have any kids that have a talent? My husband's family has so many talented people. Everyone plays an insturment and or sings ordances. How about little ballerinas performing for them or singing maybe. It can be any little song they already know. It makes family gatherings extra special at the George household when we do it and as always we do it at the last minute! lol

It was a fantastic party! My aunt came through with some great decor and games to keep everyone busy. I was dissapointed with her caterer and the cake, but overall it was a great time! I'll post pictures a lil' bit later.

Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Planning for my grandparents' 50th anniversary

Sadly, the only pictures worth showing you guys are the ones that I had posted. I wanted to hire someone to take professional pictures, or at least have my sister's friend take some to add to his portfolio, but this is all we have. My camera has too many settings for me to sit down and learn them all, so now I suffer.
Here is Grandmama with her tiara.

My grandparents near their anniversary and "groom's" cake. The grooms cake was delicious and was gone in a matter of minutes.

We had the gold star lanterns sticking out of the ground and lining up the walkway to our door much like this. Cars cruised past our house checking them out.
an image
and our fireplace had candlesticks lit around it like this, but after awhile people became nervous.

Of course our sky lanterns were a bust. We saw that they didn't have dishes to hold the ashes, so we didn't bother to light them for fear of lit ashes coming down and burning people's roofs down.
Otherwise, it was a beautiful evening.

Your Grandma looks amazing!

What a great suit she wore. I am disappointed about the sky lanterns. I would have loved a first hand account of how they work! I did get a good giggle thinking about people pattiong out min flames on the lawn but you are right, it could have gotten ugly really quickly! So smart thinking. I really love the tiara too. Very Bride Chic.
