Hello ladies, FH and I were having a discussion on whether or not to put together a bridal registry. He doesn't want to because he feels that we have everything (and we don't). Basically, he would prefer money instead. I told him that it is "proper" to register somewhere and there is always something we could use. I suggested that we sit down and work on a registry together. He is very reluctant. Ladies helppppppppppp!!!! What are some of you doing.

Girl!! I am in the same boat. My FH is saying the exact same thing. So I pouted a little because I know people think it's tacky to ask for money. So I suggested registering and then if you want to tell people word of mouth that's fine. So we go to Target and it has about 6 items on the list because everything I said he said no So..... I will just update it by myself.

That's a fabulous idea Rosey....I know some couples over here normally has something like a living room set or a bedroom set as a gift selection and the guest can go and make a payment in any amount to help purchase it for the couple. Those are all great ideas.

Now Charly that one is a good idea too -- a living room set or bedroom set -- it just keeps getting better.

I usually suggest a honeymoon registry
for brides who already have lots of stuff. How many figurines can you have anyway? I love the idea of home furnishings too! That is always great 'cause then you get something you BOTH like.

Nah theres one that I ahave not heard of before...a honeymoon registry...that is an excellent idea.

I've never heard of a honeymoon registry. Good idea. We received a wedding invitation the other day and they were asking for monetary donations and Lowe's and Home Depot cards. Are you near a Home Depot? They have a wedding registry. I bet he'll be pleased to go there!

Oh yeah he will definitely love that...men always think the gifts are for women so when a special something like a Lowes come along they are thrilled...I know my first husband was overwhelmed when one of the gifts we received was a tool set...he was glowing. Its nice to highlight them too.

Thanks Charly, I'm glad to be back as well. I missed you guys I was going crazy during the move. I moved on Thursday last week during a big snow storm. It was a mess, and it cost me double the price that I was originally quoted in light of the weather and all. But I am settling very nicely and my daughter (15) is settling in too. I was really concerned for her because moving to another state was a big deal for her. However, her dad and I decided to keep a local NY area code on her cell phone so that her friends would be able to stay in touch with her and not have to dial long distance. We also kept her in the same school -- which is only a 1 hour commute. God is good, everything is really working out just fine.

Girl is it still snowing over there? and how come ya'll have to pay to move, couldn't you just put everything in a truck and move it or it does not work like that in the states....I am glad you all considered your daughter's feeling in the midst of all this.

Yes you could put everything in a van and move it here in the states as well. However, I didn't want to deal with the "headache". It was so much easier to pay someone to pick up my furniture, unload it and place it where I needed it to be placed. I am the type of person that likes to do things the "easy" way -- and since it snowed last Thursday, I am so glad that I did!!!!

Me and my husband asked for moneytary gifts because we had everything that we needed for the house so we felt that money would be better to give us, it would help us move into are new house that we are had built.

Hi HapplyMarried505! Welcome back! CHarlotte you aer o funny! I asked the same thing when I moved to the states. In the caribbean you have to STOP people from trying to help you move. (they want to be in your business) I could not understand having to ask for the help and having it reluctantly given or people suggesting a mover. One of th people was a current BOFRIEND who owned a truck!

You know I decided on having movers because I've experience drama with the homies and gurlfriends helping out. So I'd rather hire a professional and let them do their jobs. It save me lots of headache and heartache!

Rosey I didn't know you were West Indian-----Listen I didn't realize they actually pack them and unpack them...girl I would have gone that route masef...wow! that is so cool.

To do or NOT to do a registry...that is the question with an easy answer. To me, thats a big DO!

My arguement: Marriage = new....Yes, I had pots and pans, silverware, plates, towels, etc, and they were in good shape, but you know what, I liked the idea of leaving the old behind, and bringing in as much NEW as possible....So instead of me having to buy some new pots, etc (And if it was left up to me they would be cheaper) I let someone else buy me some more expensive/high end ones....And cash in hand as a gift or not, its out of pocket. But The same went for dishes, nice china, crystal, bath stuff, kitchen stuff, serveware, silverware, etc....We got a lot of gifts and still got ALOT of cash...Plus the registry let me really take time to think about what I needed, and what I wanted....We always buy what we need, and rarely get to buy what we WANT. For me, a person who likes to bake, it was nice to get a couple of professional peices here and there that I would have had to wait a year or so to get, but needed/wanted now....Cash is good, but some may spend it on the marriage/savings/etc, but MANY spend it on bills to pay off the wedding, or smething OTHER than what it ws for, and thats to seed into all things new.....bills ain't new

Even if you put a few things (like a wish list)...you'd be surprised at what people with come through for you and do...Also, history tells me that for some weird reason, people give less cash, but will spend a lot of money on a gift.....I guess a registry just gives them a chance to splurge, which is what people love to do for you at your wedding. People just seem to love to tote in a large or heavy box rather than give a little card with money....But if you HAVE to do CASH, get the word out early and to everyone without shame or hesitation....And save it...I just get crazy about it because couples get all the cash in hand, and realize later it would have been nice to see a table FULL of gifts, and also they end up spending the money on stuff and never really getting the full effect of living the wedding out...after the wedding....It really does happen.....

We just got a home built and moved in December so I will DEFINITELY have a registry. We all have new bedroom furniture and bedding, I bought one set of pots/pans (which is no where near enough), new towels, and new silverware. I still haven't bought dishes, put together the bathrooms, organized the closets, or even started on the basement!

The way we are doing it - housewarming this year (by October) where the registry will take effect and wishing well for wedding next year(in May). Knowing my people for the bridal shower I will get a bunch of lingerie but I will update the registry with any remaining items then just in case. My BP is doing a "Ladies Night" bachelorette party (think of the video with men giving manis and pedis) for close family and friends so there will be no gifts required there.
