If you Registered at Target

Like me you might want to check this out. I got this from The Knot Pittsburgh boards.

Target changed their policy, effective Aug 1 any registry after that date, you CANNOT RETURN items from your registry, even if they were clearly purchased for you off of your registry. You have to keep track of every single gift receipt, and if you happen to lose any in all the shuffle of the wedding, well guess what, you are completely out of luck. They will do a one time return on ONE item under $20! They don't tell you all this when you register, they spend all this money advertising to get you to register, give you a useless 80 page color catalog...and then give you a nasty surprise. Their 'solution' is to send you back to your friends to ask for a receipt-yeah right! Trust me, after getting back from your honeymoon and trying to match up receipts and stuff, it is totally unreasonable. There are so many better places to register, Target has lost their marbles by burning brides and baby registries. Why would they expect us to send all our friends to buy from them when they won't treat us fairly on the other side? It doesn't matter if it's totally brand new, purchased off your registry and all you're trying to do is exchange it. Spread the word, maybe they get smart and stop burning us.

girl I feel some kind of way! We're registered a few places but the bulk of our registry is at target! ::sigh:: I was eyeing Jcpenny's though. Now I have a reason to abandon my target registry.

Dang, and I liked the Target stuff. I was intending to use them and Macy's but maybe I'll do Macy's, Linens and Things and Walmart for the appliances etc. JC Penny's is an idea too.

But thinking about it again, the person doesn't say if they allow you to exchange things that are on your registry, in which case that wouldn't be so bad because I shop at Target often.

Besides if its on your registry, why would necessarily want to return it. Its something you asked for.

You could get duplicates. Sometimes people view your registry but purchase the items elsewhere. That's what happened to me. I had some people view items from my Boscov's registry but purchased at Macy's instead (I think because they had a Macy's credit card). When people do this they can't update the registry so someone else doesn't know you already received it.

Re: If you Registered at Target

Definitely watch out for the duplicates. I was able to return a duplicate that wasn't on my registry at Target before the policy change so I was lucky... But they (Target) talks about you getting the rest of the items left on the registry at a discount, but really its a one-time deal. They send you the 10% discount card in the mail, but then its like, you can only use it for one day...So if you want to buy stuff left on the registry, you have to buy as much as you can afford that day....It doesn't say it on the coupon they sent, but she tried to take the coupon from me, when it clearly said she needs to return it to the customer-Even though they claim the policy is a one-time deal...I am so Through with the Target registry...I will NOT recommend my friends register there....nor will I do the baby registry for myself in the future...

As far as the duplicates, stay on top of updating your registry items as much as possible. Its hard to avoid recieving non-registry items, so try to get someone to spread the word about providing a gift reciept. We only were able to take back the gift cause the purchasers of that gift stuck the gift reciept on the box...But we got VERY FEW gift reciepts. The other non-registry duplicates I recieved (like those red-pot set from WalMart where I did not register) are still at the house....some others were regifted to others (at vibride suggestion-Thanks!) who decided to get married 2 weeks after she found out she was pregnant-she decided NOT to do a registry either....so why not bless someone else I say?

I registered at Target before the policy change. I really like the store but returns of gift items can be a hassle. One thing I like about their return policy is that you can return items without a receipt if you have the credit card used to make the purchase. This is NO help for gifts though!

Re: If you Registered at Target

Thanks for the info. We've already registered with them a few months ago for casual things. We're also registered at Macy's as well. Now, I don't know if I just want to cancel out my registry. People have already started to get us things from that registry too.
