I need suggestions on some songs for the Father-Daughter Dance. I'm looking for a song that's not too childish (word wise). I'm also thinking about having our parents dance (his & mine) to a song that relates to parents. They'll dance after us to the same song. The wedding party will not be dancing. The dances will be right after the introductions of the wedding party. Any ideas will be appreciated.
Thanks.

I'm using Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely".

i am using "i'll be there" but the mariah carey version!!! its not a traditional song for a father daughter dance (which i liked) but the words are so meaningful if you think about it. good luck
My Prayer: Dear God, get me to that altar in one piece with my brain in tact!!!! Only 7 weeks and counting....
I lost my father and both grand fathers in 2004. So I was going to eliminate that part of my Wedding. My mother's husband volunteered to dance with me. Considering we have a strained relationship but wanting to keep the peace with mom, I agreed. The song I chose was "Got To Give It Up by Marvin Gaye.
This will keep everyone from crying and hopefully keep my heart light during this time. :)
I say this to you to be creative. Think about what your dad means to you and I am sure it will be easier than you think to find the perfect song!
Married 5/27/2005...Glad it is all over!
as a planner , i beg of you to be as creative as possible when you go with the same wedding songs it bores your guest and they dont pay attention , it's your day let it be your music , it doesnt have to be all sentimental either , it can be a song that you and your father have a sheer love for. don't fall into the norm be unique
This may be corny...but i like that Luther Vandross song, dance with my father. i know it may be a little sad but Ilike the song and it could show that the song doesn't have to be sad. I have the same question but dofferent. My father has been MIA my whole life what should we use.? Good Luck Marshine
sorry my spelling is jacked up I have been up a long time and I have 12 hours to go. pray for me yall you know how it goes
My father died about 7 years ago and initially I thought that I would eliminate the father/daughter dance from my reception. But I've second thoughts about that and to honor his memory I'm going to dance with my brother on Luther's, "Dance With My Father Again". I think it's quite appropriate since I would give anything to dance with him again.
I agree with jcupb. My wedding is goingto be very non traditional. The song that my and I amy dance to is "Let Me Be Your Angel" by Stacy Lattisaw
Such wonderful responses. Thank you very much.
God is good all the time and all the time God is good
at my wedding last year I surprised my father with a song him and I have sang since I was a little girl. "Moody's mood for love" by James Moody. My father was quite surprised when the song begun, we ended up singing the whole song more than dancing and everyone in my family ( imediate) had huge smiles across their face when it came on. I chose a song that meant more to us than just the words. He'd been singing that song with me since I was a small child but never could get a origianl copy of the song. So after the dj played it I had him give it to my father ( I bought it just for him). - take your time brides, it'll come to you. They'll be a zillion songs that sound good, but only one that's perfect. best of luck

people will never forget how you made them feel."

This past Friday my father and I danced to "If It Wasn't for Your Love" Heather Headley. I found it to be a great touch and if you listen to the lyrics it is very appropriate.
Coming Into the Home Stretch
My dad and I are dancing to "My Girl". He used to sing it to me when I was little and I would always crack up when he got to the part.."when it's cold outside,I've got the month of May". We both share the same birthday in May. He thought it was the perfect song for us.
My father and I are dancing to "Daddy" by Beyonce. I know there won't be a dry eye in the place, but I think it's very appropriate for our relationship. If you haven't heard the song, listen to it. The lyrics are great
Is Beyonce's "Daddy" song on her latest CD? I downloaded the lyrics in print form and it seems like a song that our daughter and my FH could dance to.

OMG - I gave my parents a surprise anniversary party last year and I danced to that song with my father. I also went to a wedding this year and the bride danced with her father on that song as well. I can just listen to the song at home and start to cry. lol
The song is on her current CD and I believe it's the last track.
Thank you SeptBride, I appreciate it -- I'm heading to the store!!!!

This is my new song (duet),
Smithy...welcome to the site but excuse me for being slow here...(I usually am) but what is this?????
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
Charly, you are too funny. I thought the same thing when I first read it. It appears that it is someone who is trying to promote their song. It's a male (you can see his picture on his link.) If you paste the link that he gave you in your browser, you can downlaod the song. It's very pretty and appropriate for father-daughter dance. Not something that I would use though. Hope this helps. Not sure if smithy will be back on to answer your question.
Bossie thank you gurl........I feel so violated...is there nothing sacred, can't we have anything to ourselves..I mean we let them use the Secret deodorant (strong enough for man but made for a woman) and nah they invading our site...LORD WHAT NEXT?

I am getting September 2, 2006. I have chosen "Darlin, Darlin Baby" by the O'Jays. When I was a little girl my daddy used to sing that song to me.
MY LITTLE GIRL
From the moment I first held you
And rocked you to sleep
In my heart I knew
A child is never yours to keep
I knew one day you

Charly, those lyrics are beautiful. Is this an R & B song?
Not sure! go check it out at Wedding Music Central..

My father died when I was four, and my mother has had to be both mother and father to my siblings and me all this time. Is it weird -- I actually wanted to dance with her to "Dance with My Father" by Luther Vandross...we have no other father sunbtitutes really except for my brother...
Have a great day!

Your Mom sounds like a special lady. My parents separated when I was 2 years old and my Mom was mother and father too. While I love my dad, he is more like my friend than my father. I'd like to salute all of those Moms who were both Mom and Dad!!!
