I am excited to plan an engagment party. I live in Maryland, but my girlfriends in my hometown (Winston-Salem, NC) have agreed to throw an engagement party for me. I need some advice. 1.) Is it ok to nicely (roses, candles, buffet country meal) decorate a clubhouse at my friend's apartment complex for this affair? She doesn't live in a gated community or anything, but it's definitely nice. 2.) What do you think about inviting close friends from Maryland to come to the reception? Is it rude to assume that they might want to drive that far? 3.) Are there games or some type of proposed activities or schedule for the engagment party? 3.) What exactly are we supposed to accomplish at the engagement party? What's the purpose? 4.) Any suggestions on the attire? It seems that I want to have a nice party and have several of the smaller details. But, I need the bigger picture. Help!!!

Do a minimal display of red roses, you don't want to overkill, you guest will see such a huge display of roses for the wedding and reception.

This party is so that you can formally announce your wedding to friends and family and let them know the date of your wedding. It gives them a chance to offer well wishes. It is appropriate for them to bring a small gift and you do not have to play any games of any kind. Just mingle and show off your ring, etc.
Keep this party very simple. You don't want to blow the cash that should be spent on your wedding! Invite everyone you want to invite. It is never too far. If they can't make it they will simply say so.
