Hair Nightmare

Hello Everyone,
I'm Careyn9005 and I am new to your board. I have read several of the postings and replys. Some of them have been so inspiring because I can relate to so many of them. I just had to join.
I am having nightmares about my wedding day hair. I am getting married September 16th, 2006 and I am seriously stressing out about my hair. I have aloepecia right in the top of my head. It has been progressively getting worse over the last few years. I am told its genetic and that it is stress related. I wear wigs regulary. I am trying to stay away from the gluing. I am having this constant dream that on my wedding day, I am walking down the aisle looking fabulous and I notice that my guest are trying to control their laughter. I can't imagine what it is and then my maid of honor blurts out "your bald spot is showing" I run crying away from my FH and as I run, the spot becomes larger and larger. I wake up crying. Can you offer any suggestions on what I can do on that day? I think September is going to be warm, the wedding is outside and I don't want to have to a heavy weave.

Welcome to the boards Careyn9005! I would recommend talking to a stylist(s) to explore different options. Also are you seeing a dermatologist? Your nightmares will go away, try not to stress to much over your hair. It will work out just fine. Be encouraged!

Re: Hair Nightmare

Thanks ladies for all your encouragment and advice. I think my next stop will be a dermatologists. I have been to a hair replacement doctor but it will cost me over $6k to get the procedure done. If the dermotologists tells me to just accept the fact that I will be thin in this area, then so be it. I wear the heck out of a wig :-) My FH still loves me too. He said I could shave my head bald and it wouldn't change his feelings. I think he is exaggerating just a little but I love him for saying it anyway. He said with the wigs, it's like having a different woman every day. He never knows what to expect.

Welcome Careyn!!!!!!!

I will have you know wigs can be the bomb!!!! we do all remember Regine from "Living Single" right? She had a different look everday! I will have you to know I sport a wig quite frequently thank you very much! When it's time for a touch-up, after braid removal, a bad hair day or Florida humidity?........ A wig is definitely the answer.

Re: Hair Nightmare

Carrie, keep the faith! My boss confessed to me that she has aloepecia, too. She had hair down to her ankles literally, then it started thinning out...She went to the dermatologist. Now she's wearing a wig. She walks around her block every evening (for exercise) & on a vegetarian diet (still eating fish), taking her vitamins...now she's starting to get new growth! Been on this routine for the past two months. Even if your hair doesn't grow back in time, a wig will work wonders! They are limitless as Coppertone stated.

I'm a married woman as of December 2, 2006.

Re: Hair Nightmare

So true ladies. One thing I found out is water works wonders for the hair. Since I have made some dietary changes I've been drinking more water, and my hair seems to be shinier and it doesn't break as much. I read some where that water increases the moisture in our hair and that is a very good thing!

Lol!Girl,I tried wearing a wig a few weeks ago because my hair had a mind of it's own.Anyway, while driving,my head started getting hot and I got irritated with the wig so I snatched it off.My FH (riding in the passenger seat) saw what I did and started laughing hysterically. He just got a real kick out of seeing me with that wig cap on my head.I didn't know whether to just put it back on or leave it off.So, I pulled in the the next rest area and just combed my hair back into a ponytail.

Plat needs to be the one in the corner! I am however going to have to get my hair done THIS week because Sunday at church a lady was shouting and touched the back of my head/wig a little too hard and it was almost a catastrophe because the combs were coming out!! Had that happened I would have been a DON'T not a DIVA!!!!!!!!

rotflmbbo! I am so with you and Coppertone on this one. I love me a wig & weave. My hair was so thick that my hairdresser took thinning shears to it. It has neve gotten back an it really started breaking something fierce. Wigs saved face through many a pitch meeting!

Barely! You should have seen how quick I grabbed the back of that wig to make sure it did not go anywhere and then tried to play it off like I was smoothing it down.

Carrie, I am wrestling with what hairstyle I will wear and I'm a stylist. (Ha Ha!!) The reason being, I am wearing a v-band headpiece. In your case, see if you can find a stylist in your area that can do a stocking cap quickweave. Glue will be used, however if they protect your hair with paper, put on the wig cap, and then glue the hair on top of the wig cap, you can achieve any style you want. You may ask what will your be doing? It can either be wrapped, cornrowed, or in a ponytail.

Welcome to the boards Leanne. We appreciate your advice. I am entertaining getting a weave because I don't have a perm and my hair is soft and I don't know what to do with it.

Hi ladies.

I was considering getting a weave for my wedding day too but it'll be my very first time.

Is it as bad as they say (breakage, hair loss, etc.)?

I can do the weave but not a wig or cap or whatever they call them - I really do not want to look like I have on a wig...but the extensions - oh yeah baby!
