How do you ladies think a desert reception would be. I really dont want to spend a whole night and have a formal dinner or anything. I figured a desert/cake and champagne and a couple of dances will be ok.Is that ok or acceptable or should I plan a full reception.

Dessert receptions are AWESOME. Make sure your wedding is at least mid afternoon or after dinnertime.
Have a lot of dessert choices, petit fours, cheesecake, wedding cake, tea and coffee. How about a crepes station with a chef making creps to order? This is a lot less expensive than a blown out full reception, and would be the talk of the town. Aslo with all that sugar, you will have the liveliest reception in town! lol
You can use champagne as the only liqour and it would be super elegant. You could also think of dessert wines as an added touch too!

I agree with Rosie a desert reception will be just fine. If you can, have a nice array of deserts. Excellent choice Allies. Your guests will love it!

I started thinking of having a desert reception after talking to my grandmother. She told me not to spend a whole lot of money trying to feed everybody that might not even like the food. I know just about everybody likes desert. I can shop around for diffrent kinds. I really dont eat a whole lot of diffrent things so I will be needing help from you ladies on what actually to get besides my cake. I can get champagne and punch and apple cider for the kids......Yall will have to help me out on that..OK?
That's why we are here. Girl you are on your way!

Great Idea, Allies! For a minute there I thought you were saying a deser reception instead of dessert reception. I was thinking who wants to be out in the desert hot as heck! The deserts that Rosey mentioned would be great. I also heard that have a morning reception/brunch is alot cheaper too!

If any of your guest are like me...a chocolate fountain with fresh strawberries and other dipping items would make your reception a hit!!
Happiness is only a prayer away!
Also, I've seen events on Food Network where they had fondue stations all around the room too! You could do fondue stations, chocolate fountains(white & dark) desserts, fruit with fruit dips, whipped cream, wine and cheese too!

I am a full blown chocoholic. I have a voracious sweet tooth. I don't care for much of any other food. I have a LOOOOOOOOONG list of foods I DON'T eat but sweets are definitely NOT on that list. love me some desserts.
I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride; so I love you because I know no other way. ~ Pablo Neruda
Thanks ladies...I have alot to talk about with FH as soon as I get home.I am open for any suggestions. Like mrslee said I have a limited food list that I like which is why I wanted a dessert reception. I am a very picky eater.
if u have this dessert reception, send me an invite. I be craving desserts like crazy!

I surely will. I think I will be posting my invitation on h ere anyway so that all the vibride women are free to attend. I think posting here will be easier and cheaper than mailing them individually....Come to think of it we all should do that....
Sounds good to me!

I think it's a great idea, too!
And PureBliss, you can post a pic like this:
"{img src="http://www.linktoyourpicture.com/imgname.jpg" border="1"}"
(without the " marks at the beginning and end of the code and by using < and > instead of { and })
Using that code and filling in your link to the image and the image name in the right spots will cause your image to be posted. I hope that helps!
Have a great day!

A dessert reception is a great idea. I actually went to one about 3 years ago. The ceremony started at 6pm and the reception at 7. when I tell you it was so many desserts to choose from...it was unbelievable. The wedding cake was displayed in the middle. They had a candy bar with all differnt types of candy. They had a chocolate fountain with everything you could think of to be dipped in chocolate, bananas foster flaming jubilee, cheescakes, tiramisu, pastries...I could go on and on. it was a non-alcoholic reception, but they did have beer, wine and champagne. I have been to a zillion recpetions and don't remember all of the food at any of them, but I will never forget that one.
I went to a bakery today and they told me that different pasteries werem $.89 for one or a tray for $89. I have to chech how many were on the tray but everything looked so good! I will have to take FH down there the next time I go so he can see if he wants it.
A dessert reception would definitely be a memorable one!

OK ladies I have a new idea.....how does a brownie tower sound? You know how people have cup cake towers would that work for brownies? I LOVE LOVE LOVE brownies ,as a matter of fact I am baking some now, and I would love them at my reception. Now another question is can they take place of the wedding cake?

Of course they can! You can do it how you like! I would even provide cute paper bags with your wedding logo (date, names, maybe a pic) for your guests to take stuff home as a favor:)....if the venue allows this. I think as long as its pre-packaged or if they are not the caterers.....These things are called a dessert bar..... I think...
Here are some links with examples of dessert bars....
Brown and White wedding
Candy Shoppe Theme wedding
Colorful candy bar
A sweet favor
More sweet treats
Candy instead of cake?
Use a bag like this
Then give a cute theme like "Strawberries and Champagne reception" or "A Sweet Treat reception"
Have fun Alvinslove!

BUMBLE BUMBLE BUMBLE.....GURL! I LOVE ME SOME CANDY! Do you how hard it will be to give all that candy away and not eat it all. I think I would be all up in those jars and walking around with a few bags in my hand all night. I love those ideas. I have to show them to my FH so he can give his oponion on them.
Since my weddinh colors are red and white how about a "peppermint stripe" reception theme...that just came to mind when I saw those plates...those are cute. I have alot to think about for this reception...
Don't forget about the personalized candy bars as favors, that would be a nice finishing touch. Wait... don't forget the creme brulee...my favorite.

Ok That is definately NOT a non alchoholic receotion! lol. I adore bananas Foster. It is my weakness! So is Tiramisu. But these things are getting expensive. you ARE hiring a caterer, right Allies? It would be less expensive than to try to round up all these different fdserts and linensa nd china for your guests. Get quotes before trying to rent or buy chocolate fountains and such! We do have the cutest Heart Shaped Fondue Set & Heart Shaped Dessert Plates that will make cool centerpieces and even great giveaways or bridal party gifts that will mirror the dessert theme.

Yes Rosie I WILL be having a caterer. I do not make desserts well except brownnies and cake soI will not even attempt to make any of the suggested,I'm just writing it all down to give to the right people.
Rony you are so welcome to come to my reception.....
Bumble I will have to check out a Walmart that has a bakery in it. The nearest one I saw was like 90 miles away...I will not be using that one.But since my lcation has changed I will have to do a new search.... FH loved the candy idea!
