Thank you so much for the information provided. I will definitely be back to full planning mode next weekend as I have an extra heavy week ahead of me. I'm scheduled to be in New York, but I so do appreciate the information and you're right, I have a lot of decision to make and just when I thought that I was okay there for a while, you showed me things that I wasn't even looking into because I've had my hands into too many things. I need to really concentrate and focus more on my own day. I'm stretch to tightly, but I'm clearing my calendar quickly enough.
Ginoue, I totally understand. I know when you pull everything together it's going to be hot!
A good inspiration for this Classic French style is the movie musical, Gigi.

Have you ever seen it? I used to love watching it on TBS when I was little. It probably airs on AMC or TCM now. I'm sure you could rent it. It's set in Paris and stars French actress Leslie Caron.

Audrey Hepburn, who you love, starred in her first major role in the broadway version. It is considered to be the last great MGM musical. A song made famous in Gigi is the song "Thank Heaven for Little Girls" sung by Maurice Chevalier.
Gigi is one of my favorite French musicals. I've been looking for it everywhere lately and have finally tracked it to Quebec. It never occurred to me to check TCM for it first. I adore Maurice Chevalier. Thanks for sharing your friend's wedding slideshow.

You're welcome. Ginoue, if you want to purchase Gigi you can get it from amazon.com or tcm.com They even have a Two-Disc Special Edition. I also see that it's airing on TCM on Nov. 2 at 6:00 p.m. and Dec. 11 at 10:45 a.m.
Currently in the beginning phases of planning my wedding (the 12th month), I had a lot of things that came to mind and my Vibride sisters were extremely instrumental in narrowing down a lot of my flyaway ideas. Thanks Ladies!!!
Yet, as the 12th month draws to a close, I'm a bit disappointed in myself that I didn't accomplish a whole lot more. But be that I'm also planning a lot of weddings between now and June of 2009, I'm exhausted, stressed to the max, but loving every minute of my planning process. Unfortunately, I only have about 2 days a week to concentrate on planning my wonderful day as I don't want to cheat my clients on getting the very best of me either.
These are the things I can so far check off my list of things to do for the month of Sepember to October 12th, 2008:
1. Our formal engagement was announced on September 13th, 2009 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida
2. Our Wedding Date is set for September 12th, 2009 at 6:00 PM, and the reception will follow starting at 7:30 PM
3. As FH and I are both of Baptist faith, our ceremony will be performed in a very typical Haitian Baptist ceremony.
4. We started to create our guest list
5. We've asked special people in our lives to be our honor attendants and have mailed out our "Will You" cards
6. We've chosen to go to New Orleans for our Honeymoon and spend our time at the French Quarters.
7. Our Wedding Theme is "Classic Elegance" and our Style is "Old Hollywood Silver Screen era of the 1930s and 1940s".
8. Our Colors are Champagne, Gold, Merlot and Dusty Rose
9. We've decided to write our own Wedding Vows, instead of going with the traditional vows.
10. Our Budget have been set at a maximum of $10,000
11. We expect a maximum guest of 130
12. I narrowed down my wedding gown to 2 choices
13. My Bridesmaids gowns have already been decided upon
14. I am in negotiations with whom I hope to be our Photographer. His name is Barak and he was also the Photog for Mrs KeepUP as well. So I hope that we could come to terms very soon ~ Thanks to Mrs Nikol Whittingham, known to all of us affectionately as Diva Turiya!!! You rock Diva T!!!
15. FH and I have signed a contract and have given a 25% deposit to our DJ ~ Courtesy of Event My Way, based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
16. For our Reception Hall, we're currently looking into either "Revolution" a top notch club/banquet hall in Fort Lauderdale and also we're looking into FIU Wolfe University Center in North Miami. We're still looking so no contracts have been signed as of yet.
17. Our church have already been booked, courtesy of my MIL
18. As far as Florits are concerned, as I've previously stated, I have a very talented young lady who works with me and I will be entrusting her with my floral arrangements. I just have to buy the centerpiece materials as I've already started to do.
19. I will need to find a Day Of Coordinator as well, but I have time to do interviews maybe my April or May of next year.
20. DIY Project for the Month ~ Monograms ~ are completed
21. Materials have been ordered to make our "Save-The-Date" cards, which is our next DIY Project.
22. I've nearly completed the design for our Save-The-Date cards.
*** Well Divas, those were the tasks that I had to accomplish for this month and I'm happy to announce that with the exception of choosing our reception venue and a Day Of Cordinator, all are done. So humongous check on my To Do list and I'm right on schedule, or should I say 3 days ahead of schedule. I'm going to kick back, relax and enjoy my 3 wedding-planning-free days off. Thank you guys so much for all of your invaluable ideas and I hope that this is just the beginning as I do have 11 more months of planning to go. THANK YOU DIVAS!!!
Thank you so much Lolo. Appreciate the compliment.
By the way, I know that I say that I would take the next couple of days off, but I just couldn't help myself. I just ordered gift bags instead of gift boxes.
VIPrincess, I took your advice in the "Toile" motif. Take a look at this. I just ordered the Burgundy French Toile Bags and Burgundy tissue paper. I can't wait to get them.
Ok, could someone please teach me how to resize pictures? I need to shrink the pics on my blog. I heard some of the sisters said that they used tinypics and other sites, but I don't know how to do it. Please help me. Thanks
Thank you so much SWEETP!!! I've been looking forward to showing my FH my wonderful stumping ground, the French Quarters of New Orleans. We're both fluent in French and in Creole, so "laisser les bons temps rouler!!! Let the good times roll", as they say in New Orleans.
Oh Divas, I forgot to include a picture of my "Will You" cards. I had to go back to VistaPrint to find it as I don't have a scanner (need to get one of those).
This is the front of the card. Please keep in mind that I had to change some of the wordage to match accurately. For example Bridesmaids, Ladies-In-Waiting, Groomsmen, Flowergirls, Ring Bearer, Page, etc... You ladies get the point, ok.
Ok, I've been examining costs and Divas, I would love to have my extra tall Martini glasses as Martinis were the common drinks of the silver screen era. However, I went to Michael's website and fell in love with this baby. What do you ladies think. It would cost me about $20 each to make this including the Apothecary Jars with lids. The martini glasses alone would've costed me about $38 each and then to buy the crystals and the floral arrangements on top I estimated that each would've costed me about $60 per arrangements, so if I were to go with the Apothecary Jars with Lids, I would save a bundle ($40 per arrangements).
Personally, I like it the way that it's decorated with the lid next to it, but do you ladies think that I should place it on a round glass or should I just leave it as is? Feedback appreciated.
That's a really nice centerpiece idea Gin. Have you priced the Apothecary Jars you want to use already? They can be expensive. The cheapest I seen in a craft store was $12 but the quality of glass wasn't that great.
If you decide to go with this style centerpiece, remember your centerpieces should be shorter than 14 inches or taller than 20. Otherwise you'll block people's view of one another.
"I'm a work in progress, God is not through me yet"
Pam, I found them on save-on-crafts.com a while back and I ordered one of them just to see the quality. I was satisfied with it. They were $7.99. Pam, it's 12" tall, 9" tall without the lid, 8" deep, 4.75" wide, base 3.75" across, and neck opening 2" across. Whewww, you had me taking out my tape measure hahaha!!!
$7.99 isn't bad at all, especially if you're satisfied with the quality. That would definitely work out to be less expensive than the martini glasses.
The tallest part of your centerpiece has to be shorter than 14 inches so make sure when you put the flowers that the tallest flower doesn't stick out much more than 5 inches. Not sure if you have a table in your house that's 30 inches high (the average height of banquet tables) but if so, place the jar on the table and then take a seat. That will give an pretty good idea if the view around table is obstructed or not.
"I'm a work in progress, God is not through me yet"
Thank you so much for the advice Pamcrow. I don't have a banquet table at home, however, at our michaels here in Maryland, they have tables set up in the back. Next weekend, I will go with my apothecary jar and pull the branches and flowers that I need in order to see how it would look. I certainly don't want to block anyone at the reception.
16. For our Reception Hall, we're currently looking into either "Revolution" a top notch club/banquet hall in Fort Lauderdale and also we're looking into FIU Wolfe University Center in North Miami. We're still looking so no contracts have been signed as of yet.
I'm feeling this Revolution place as your reception hall.
Thank you so much VIPrincess. You know, the more I look at it, the more I'm comfortable with it as our centerpieces. FH thinks that we should give some of them away during the reception. I was planning on giving one of them to his mom and Dad, one to my Aunt (the matriarch of our family), one to our Pastor and his wife and some to other guests whom will be coming as far as England and Ireland for our wedding. Other than that, I was hoping to keep 6 of them for ourselves because I wanted to have 2 on display in my home office. What do you think?
Thanks for the compliment Butterbean. Actually, this was the nightclub side of Revolution. The nightclub alone accommodates 750 people. It's a pretty big place. They also have areas available for both Private and Semi-Private parties. The room that we're thinking about look something like this when we visited it.

I love that center piece G. Everything looks great sis.
Okay, major updates, but I'll try to keep each ideas separate. First and foremost, I lost my baker!!! I mean, I'm freaking out here!!! I understand her reasons for backing out on me, but darn, that means that I would have to reevaluate things. Here's the cake that I want.
I know it's big, but I was hoping to find someone to make it for me for about $700 - $800. So far, FH and I have spoken with at least a dozen bakers today and the cheapest I found it was $1,343 and that was at Publix. I mean, I was advise that a cake that tall couldn't have any filling or it will slide. I understood that. Do you guys think that it's a reasonable amount to spend on the cake? It's one thing when you're the planner and it's not your money or your wedding, but an entire thing altogether when it's your wedding you're planning in this joke of an economy. HELP DIVAS!!!
I went to the Publix website and was able to find a few cakes that I like. What do you guys think about those cakes.
Choice #1 - This one is called "Classic White", but instead of the starch white buttercream, I thought to have the buttercream in Ivory
Choice #2 - In Ivory
Choice #3 - Buttercream in Ivory except without all those flowers in between. I would rather have the cakes stacked one on top of the other to make it look like just one big cake.
While I wait on quotes from Publix, could you Divas please help me pick out a cake? Thank you
Other news: We now have a Matron Of Honor and a Maid Of Honor. Reason? Jealousy. Originally, my younger sister was going to my Matron Of Honor, and my other sister was going to be one of my Ladies-In-Waiting. Then, the other younger sister started complaining that I love my other sister more. Well, what do you say to something like that? I removed her as one of the Ladies-in-waiting and upgraded her to Maid Of Honor. We now also have 2 Best Men
2nd news: FH swears that he's got his boys' tuxes all picked out. He
Thank you so very much Lolo. My BMs are also rooting for Cake #2, but If we do choose cake #2, I'll remove the fake pink roses that are on top and sugar paste flowers to match my wedding colors.
All your cake choices are very nice but I prefer cake #1. Gin as far as your cake dilema, think about what advice you would give a client. Asking yourself what was it about your original cake that drew you to it? What's more important to you, a specific flavor or specific style? Once you know the answers to those, sit down and talk to your baker being honest about your cake budget and see how close they can get you to what you want within your price range. Maybe you can do a fake tier. Or maybe do less tiers and serve a plain less intricate sheet cake version to guests. That will save you some money also.
"I'm a work in progress, God is not through me yet"
G,
Everything looks great. Love the Tuxcedos and the colors are gonna look great together. Great jewelry selections as well.
I love cake #'s 1 and 3.
And of course on cake #3, the flowers between the teirs give it extra height.
Thanks for the advice Pamcrow. The original cake was my dream cake and you wouldn't beieve the price that I was quoted to have it made in New York, as we were originally going to get married in New York. One bakery asked me nearly $4,000 to make that cake for me. So, when I added a baker to my group, she took a look at the picture that I had and said that she'll do it for me for $700. Talk about your major discounts. But she's going through a lot of personnal things right now and isn't even sure if she'll even be in the states around the time of my wedding, so she gave me plenty of time to come up with a plan B. That's why I was looking into Publix Cakes and besides, maybe it's a blessing in disguise. Publix Cakes are absolutely wonderdul!!! Yeah, I'm a bit bummed about not having my dream cake, but, I'm not willing to blow my wedding budget by chasing this cake either. So, I'm okay with that now. I just have to pick one, but I've got time for that as well.
Thank you so much SWEETP!!! I'm really loving the choice #1 & 3 for the cakes. I love cake #1 because I could just elevate it with something to make it look just a bit taller. Maybe I'll just wrap something in foil, but I'm thinking of what I could wrap it in to give it that golden look.
As for the 3rd cake, the reason why I love it so much is because it reminds me of my original cake. I'm just not sure if I would keep it as is with the flowers like that. It does give it added height. Should I decide on the 3rd cake, I would probably change the color of roses that are displayed or maybe just remove the roses altogether and stack them. I love them both however.
Thank you so much Shy, this blog is about to blow up. Watch for it. I will post everything that I accomplish as it happen, so sit back, with your favorite champagne or mix drink, have a tray of Hors D'oeuvres darling and enjoy the show. The best is yet to come!!! I'm so very excited!!!
UPDATES!!! I found bridal salons within 15 miles of our church that carries both of my bridal gowns. I've made an appointment with them for mid December (That's when I return to FT. Lauderdale) in order to try them on.
My mind have been pushing more and more for choice #3 because it's an Elizabeth Taylor inspired gown of the silver screen era. I like #1 as well, so I can't wait to try both of them on. #1 just looks like you'd be floating on a cloud. Wow, this is so hard because I love them both. Hum, I hope to make up my mind in December though because I don't want to cut it too close.

A good inspiration for this Classic French style is the movie musical, Gigi.

Thank you so much for the compliment CMT. Still in the honeymoon phase hum? Oh that's so very sweet. Well, girl, enjoy your DH.
Thanks for the compliment Butterbean. Actually, this was the nightclub side of Revolution. The nightclub alone accommodates 750 people. It's a pretty big place. They also have areas available for both Private and Semi-Private parties. The room that we're thinking about look something like this when we visited it.

I love that center piece G. Everything looks great sis.
Thank you so very much sister Sensationablyhappy.
Ginoue it's going to be so fantastic! You are doin. the damn thing girl!
Living my life like it's GOLDEN!!
Thank you so much Diva Phenomonique!!!
He
More good news!!! I went on a shopping spree tonight and this is what I've bought.
For both of my MOHs
For my 8 Bridesmaids
For both of my Ladies-In-Waiting
What do you ladies think?
I've yet to find gifts for my 4 flowergirls and my ringbearer. Any suggestions Divas?
FH is in charge of purchasing gifts for the guys. I don't know if that's such a great idea. I may have to rethink that task.
the jewelery is very elegant & goes well with ur theme.gr8 job Gin!!
the groomsmen's jackets...very unique
cake#2 is standing out for me,the floral arrangement is very nice indeed

G,
Everything looks great.

Thanks again Diva!!!
Thank you so much Diva Niquey!!! Just tryin' to do my thing. You know (hahaha)
Ginoue I love all your updates. The tux and the jelwery are Fabulous. My vote for the cake is #1 and #3.
Remember To Always Be Fabulous!!!

Gin,
everything is coming along so beautifully. I love every detail. I am so anxious to see the day of. Cant wait for more details
Thanks for the compliment sis!!!

I totally feel you, Ginoue. I didn't give away our centerpieces at our reception either. I already knew I wanted to keep two of them for our home and already knew who else I had in mind for the others. Your day, your way.
