Has anyone had someone other than their father give them away at the wedding. My father is still alive, but has not been "fully" present in my life, although we are "friends". I have asked my oldest brother to give me away.

IOt is quite fine to have your brother walk you down the aisle. Especially if your Dad is not hosting or paying for your wedding. This is a testament to how close you are to your brother. Very sweet.
I agree with Rosetta...at my first wedding my choir director gave me away...my brother was not old enough and I had only met my father once at age 15 and never again after that, I was 25. I thought it appropriate cause I spent more than 10 years in the choir.
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
My dad passed8 yrs ago so I asked my grandfather to walk me down the aisle. The thing is he is 85. A good looking, well moving 85 but his age is really starting to affect his health. I spoke with my brother (younger by a year)and he said if our grandfather isn't up to it he be glad to walk his big sis down the aisle.
I am very close to my brother. He is five years older than I am and I wouldn't think of having anyone else walk me down the aisle (He cried when I asked him to walk me down the aisle). My father isn't paying for anything and while he and I are "friends" today, he's been missing in action most of my life, so he hasn't earned that honor. Thanks everyone, as always I appreciate your input.
