I would just like to let all brides know that House of Brides is a company that does not care about its customers. Let me tell you my story. It's long, but it's worth the read.

I never thought about that. I suppose it's something to consider. I'm going to take a few steps first, like email The Fixer (a columnist for the Sun-Times) and call the Better Business Bureau as well as the Chamber of Commerce of Oak Lawn. Thanks for the suggestion!
Girl I am so sorry to hear about all of the DRAMA you had to go through. I think I would have been in jail. Although I reside in NJ thanks for the warning. I am certain someone can use this information.
I am originally from Chicago and I have heard other horror stories about this place. When my Mom and I went looking there the first time I was getting married. The staff just seemed uninterested in helping us and since they were not interested in helping I politely left! One monkey doesn't stop a show though. I'm glad you were able to wear the dress anyway. By the way welcome!
Welcome to the site Cubbie10. Sorry to hear about your ordeal. As Askalot (SeptBride) suggested, perhaps you should take the matter to small claims court. In any event I hope that you resolve this matter satisfactorily.

First welcome Cubbie, secondly, that IS a big mess. I would DEFINATELY look into small claim court on this one. The fact that the manager suggested you call the BBB and all that means that she thinks nothing is going to happen to her. That her business will not be hurt in all of this. That's just crazy!
Exactly soon! Even if nothing comes out of it, which I doubt, I would sue her azz! Even try to get damages for the headache you went through on your wedding day (this is a day that you'll never be able to get back).
Looking at the report it makes it look like that business did "all they could" to resolve whatever issues, but the consumer was not satisfied and they failed to let the BBB know. I betcha' that's why she told to go ahead and file a complaint, because nothing has ever come of it. I would MOST DEFINATELY go to small claims court now, filing the complaint on BBB doesn't seem to be doing anything!..
Thank you all for the warm welcome and words of encouragement. Also, thank you for posting that link to the BBB - I'm stunned and also hysterically laughing that the "Customer Service Manager" is Lucille Mason, not Lucy Smith, as the sales clerk told me. Wow. A possible outright lie (I can't exactly accuse anyone of that, but doesn't it look like that?!) I knew from a recent experience that my husband had dealing with a small software company that the BBB apparently doesn't do a thing about any issue that's reported, but I was going to report them anyway. I basically decided that I'm going to let everyone know that I possibly can by going to any website and posting my story as well as writing all those letters. Thanks everyone for your support!
Wow Cubbie, first I want to give you a late but warm welcome to the site. Hopefully the BBB will get their act together and force the company to give reparations. I would definitely take them to court too. Good luck with it all though.

Did you try to sue her in small claims court? You have enough witnesses to prove that you're not lying.

Especially if it was a public case like Judge Judy or Mathis. That would be bad publicity for their company!

House of Brides (Oak Lawn, IL)- BBB report
It seems like there were a few complaints about this company.
