Is a registry a must???

I really don't like registries, and I don't want to register, however, I do want to make purchasing a gift easy for my guests. Do you think my guests will be irritated if I am not registered anywhere?

I do realize that if I don't register, I may end up with 10 toasters or something, but can't that happen even if I do register?

I don't like registries because I like surprises. That's why I never purchase gifts off of registries. What do you ladies think?

If you ladies are registering, where are you registering at?

In the begginning I wasn't going to register either. But FH and I decided to register anyway. We are registered at Macy's, Bed, Bath & Beyond and more recently Walmart. If you register I think it will probably decrease the likelihood that you will receive 10 toasters. The up side of registering is that you only chose those items that you really want.

Gift registries makes gifting easy for the the buyer & the recipient. I think using registies is great. I don't have to scratch my head trying to figure out what people want. In turn, you can give your guests an idea of what you'd like via the registry. I'm registered at Target & Bed Bath & Beyond. My registries aren't long lists or unrealistic either. My FH & I don't live together yet, so when we move out, we are going to need a lot of home essentials. Even if people use your registry, you can be surprised at what you receive, if you want to be...After you register, don't log-on checking what has/hasn't been purchased. Just leave it be.

I'm a married woman as of December 2, 2006.

I guess you are right:( The part about not logging on to see what was purchased........I can't do that. Even though I like surprises, I am nebbie:) It will kill me not to look. I'll feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.

I guess if you two are just now moving in together, then registries are good because you need just about everything, but FH been living together for 6 years, and we don't really need anything. So I figured, if we get surprised with a new toaster, then good, but we really don't "need" one.

Maybe I'll just have a small registry at Macys and call it a day.

LOL B2B you are too funny -- I understand the part about feeling like a kid on Christmas Eve. I think I will be able to "leave things be" as Cinny says.

Great idea! Keep it simple...register for items that you could use (like a new microwave, George Forman mini-grill, frames, candles, linens, or gift cards!) but never got around to buying.

Do I need to register somewhere seperately for the shower, or is the shower and wedding registry usually at the same store?

That is completely up to you. Most stores carry an array of items so you can chose a variety of things.

The sistas are really on point!I wasn't thinking about registering either but I'm like you,B2B.I don't want to end up with 10 toasters either.Lol.But since I have a house full of stuff already,I feel that I can never have too much linen! So,I indeed to register at Bed,Bath, and Beyond,Target,Walmart, and JcPenney. However,I wouldn't mind having real silverware...

Re: Is a registry a must???

I was glad some folks talked me into registering. I truly forgot what I registered for and was surprised at every gift I received at my Surprise Shower on this past friday the 16th. Some were from the registry, gift cards, money and victoria's. It was fun.

Re: Is a registry a must???

If you like surprises register at several different stores. Pick different things from each store for your registry. That way, you dont know what you will be getting.
