Hi guys, I have been feeling like I'm getting resistance from my mom. I am relocating to Jersey City, NJ. My fiance has found us a beautiful apartment there (he currently lives in New Jersey). Originally, he was going to move to New York (I'm currently residing in NY now), but things have changed. I know she feels sad, because right now I live 8 city blocks from her. I have explained to her that I welcome the change. She's not alone because my younger brother still lives at home and I have two other siblings here in NY. Whenever I talk about moving, she starts saying things to make me feel guilty like "you know your daughter is not going to like moving" "I hope your not changing her school" or I just get plain old silence. I am so exciting and I want to share things with my mom, but I don't know what to do. I try to reassure her that New Jersey is a hop, skip and a jump away from New York, but I think she is still feeling sad. Are any other ladies relocating? Please share.

Girl change can be a good thing! I'm originally from New Orleans. Now I live in the BX by way of Atlanta, Houston, New Carrollton, San Diego, and back to New Carrollton. I almost moved to Denver. But I love it here in NY! Trust me, my mom didn't care for it either. But now she looks at it as a new vacation spot for her. Explain the benefits of moving you daughter out of NY, that alone should ease her into acceptance.

Thanks Phenomonique, I am very close to my mom, so this resistance feels really strange to me. I will take your advice and tell her of the benefits of moving my daughter out of NY. Hopefully, she will come around. Thanks.

Awww, you and your mom must be close. My company is moving to Jersey City in a couple of weeks (Exchange Place). It may take your mom a while to adjust, but she will.
Thanks SeptBride, I hope so. I will miss my mom too, but I am ready to move on to the next phase of my life. I hope she will adjust, because as I stated before her resistance feels really strange to me and I don't know how to respond to it.

Rhoda she will come around because she knows that you will be happy and I am sure she only want the best for you especially if you're marrying a wonderful guy. Like Moe said explain the benefits of relocating. I am jealous thou, I wish I had the relationship with my mom that you have with yours. Best wishes.
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
Thanks CharlotteModebe for the advice. My mom absolutely loves my FH. I guess she's just have a little anxiety. I'm hoping that things will work out in the end. I come from a very clost knit family, so I become confused when things are out of wack. I appreciate you ladies so much, I feel like I can make it!!!!

That's beautiful. She'll come around though. I'm sure it's hard on both of you. Family is something else girl. But you'll be alright, and mom will too :)
